This is my current project.
I was fortunate enough to obtain this extremely rare vintage Johan '68 442 in a trade with a member of another forum.
But in spite of it's rarity, it is still getting the complete treatment.
The entire interior has been blown apart and parts from the Johan kit combined with parts from the MPC '69 442.
Door panels and front seats have been completely rebuilt.

The body was in very good condition, but a little work was required to bring it up to the level I wanted.
First, the engine bay detail from the MPC '69 was transplanted into the '68.
Then a vent post was repaired and trim was added for a vinyl top.
The entire engine and chassis from the '69 kit will be transplanted into the '68, with modifications of course.
First, any original faint wiring detail was removed from the fender wells and new wiring and plumbing detail was added to the fender wells and firewall.
I also added an additional flange to the inner fender for added realism.
The hollow front frame rails were also boxed in.
Then the body was primed and is ready for it's coats of Scale Finishes "Cinnamon Bronze" paint.

As a little side project, I decided to modify the W-30 air cleaner from the MPC '69 due to the fact that I will build the engine using a Fireball Modelworks Rochester Qudrajet carb, and I wanted some display options.
When finished I will be able to display it without the air cleaner altogether, with the air cleaner installed, or with just the top of the air cleaner removed and the top of the carb and air cleaner element exposed.
Plus this will make correctly painting the base black and leaving the top chrome much easier.

Thanks guys!
Managed to get a little more work accomplished today.
We're in the middle of a snow storm here at the moment, so it's a perfect excuse to spend some time at the bench!
Got the color on the majority of the interior parts as well as a coat of clear, and got the engine bay area painted black.
I'll mask that area off as well as the top before spraying color.
I'll remove the tape before the last coat of clear in order to get the matte finish on the black, and will spray the top once all of the color and clear are on the body.

Just the first coat of a likely 3, but so far, I'm really liking it!
Not as dark as I expected, but it should darken with successive coats, and I discovered on my previous project that the Scale Finishes metallic colors can change a great deal when clear is applied.

For a minute there I thought I was looking at a Juha Airio WIP, patience and determination to attack any challenge with results that are truly jaw dropping . Thanks for posting, makes this storm seam faraway.

Thank you so much mack2856!
I appreciate that!
I did manage to get the fender stripe painted just a few minutes ago.
It always makes me a little nervous when I'm basically free handing masking something like this off, and then there's always the fear of bleed under, but it went very well thanks to my trusty Tamiya tape and several very light coats of Duplicolor sandable black primer.
Let the clear coats commence!!

A bit more accomplished today.
Yesterday I shot one coat of clear over the body and today I foiled all of the body emblems and detail painted them, followed by another coat of clear.
The body will likely get at least 2, maybe 3 more coats of clear, before it is done.
I also managed to get a start on foiling interior parts.
I got a door panel, it's arm rests and one seat done so far.
The door panels will get some detailing yet, including window cranks, door handle, and door lock buttons, as well as a little detail painting.

Finished up the clear coats today and got everything un-masked.
I will let it dry for a couple of days and then mask and spray the top.

Completed the vinyl top.
After some arduous masking, two light coats of black primer, a splatter of Duplicolor black from a distance, a color coat of Rustoleum flat black, and a final light splatter coat of the Rustoleum, and it's finished.
I found that this Rustoleum flat black woorks very nice for vinyl tops.
It's the only Rustoleum product that I use.

Another little detail that I felt that I had to add.
The gauges should have a chrome ring on the end of a black bezel, yet there is no detail molded into the dash to foil or paint.
I decided to cut thin slices of aluminum tubing, paint them black and polish the ends to replicate these bezels.
There are some voids in the bottom of each gauge that I missed that this detail may help hide as well.
Shouldn't be noticeable once the dash is installed.

Haven't gotten a lot accomplished over the past week, but I did manage a little more paint work on the chassis finished.
Got the red fender covers in the rear fender wells painted.
I didn't know that the rear wells were supposed to be red as well, until It was brought up in discussion on another forum.
I also finished the fuel tank painting.
