BMF looks great to me Niko, considering it's a Ford.... 😋
Why is it that hoods don't seem to paint the same as the bodies???
What year is your S10? Only vehicle I ever bought brand new, was my 95 S10. Had the first purple one in the area. Ordered it with long bed, regular cab, posi, ABS, and the regular Vortec V6 without AC. To get it that way, it came with the same suspension and gearing that the SS S10 had. Sweet truck, loved it. Drove it for 12 years. During my first divorce I didn't know if I could make the payments, so I tried selling it. Nobody wanted it as soon as they found out it wasn't extended cab or AC.

Foiling job looks pretty good from here, my biggest difficulty with foil is getting it to lay flat on a smooth surface, or, more properly, smoothing the surface to lay it on. Trimming it isn't too big a deal for me, its the final look of it that kills me sometimes. Crinkly chrome doesn't happen in real life. I would say your effort there is up with the best of mine. I avoid US heavy metal much for that reason: too much chrome too hard to foil!
And I have often wondered about that hood phenomenon myself. Even after taking pains to post the piece on the car somehow during the painting, it turns out a different shade than the car! Not just limited to hoods by the way...mirror shrouds, wheels, bumpers...no matter, never match! I think it might have something to do with the slightly different angle of spray the piece might get sitting even a very small distance from the body, especially with sparkly glamour finishes.

Thanks Guys, I appreciate the kind words! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had problems with hood color not matching to the rest of the body. Sometimes I've had to re-do the paintjob a couple of times before it's good to go. Luckily this time I didn't have to strip the paint and start all over again... JB is right, these sparkly finishes are probably the trickiest ones to get right! John, the S10 is a 1992, so it's the second last 1st Gen model year. It's a standard cab, short bed, rear wheel drive and it has the "legendary" GM Iron Duke under the hood backed up with a 5 speed Tremec. It's extremely slow, but with the current gas prices around here, it's a good daily driver and a lot of fun to drive. It's great in the winter as well, fires up no problem and there's never cold inside the cab, even though the temperature is around -10 Fahrenheits. JB, getting the foil to lay smoothly is always one problem, but to me the biggest problem is usually the trimming. Especially on a car like this, with long side trim that is straight as an arrow, that's very tricky to trim properly. With regular window trim that's not a problem though. I'd like to be able to avoid some of the true BMF Nightmares ('58 Impala!), but "unfortunately" they're my favorite subjects in modeling, so I think the guys at my Local Hobby Shop keep some BMF in stock for me in the future, too.

More Thunderbolt pics! The body panel that is between the grille and front bumper should be painted body color. It was molded together with the grille though, so the options were either to try and mask the whole chrome part away and try spray painting the area with the body paint, or then find a blue that is pretty close and paint by brush. I went with the brush painting idea, because if I tried to mask the whole grille off in order to spray paint, the masking would probably have leaked from somewhere... Luckily Humbrol had a metallic blue that was pretty close, so I used that and painted it by brush. The mesh screens on place of the inner headlights are the clear kit parts that I just painted silver and black washed with "The Detailer". I also polished the hood. The mesh parts behind the scoop were painted flat black. Those hood pins are the kit parts, because I had ran out of photo etch parts for them. The tail light panel required some detail painting as well. The area between the two chrome moldings had to be painted with silver, just the way it is in the 1:1 version too. The Fairlane 500 badge, chrome moldings and tail light bezels were black washed with "The Detailer" too. ' Then it was time to do the final assembly. In the engine bay the only problem was with the air hoses that lead air to the carburetors. But with a little of sanding I was able to get the hoses past radiator hoses and valve covers. In the exterior, I stripped the chrome from the front bumper as the real cars had aluminum front bumpers and they often weren't polished to a perfect shine. The original Thunderbolts had only one windshield wiper, but that was taken off from many cars back then, so I didn't want to install that on my version. These things rarely had outside rear view mirrors either, so I didn't install one either. Here's one picture of the finished product, I'll try to take better shots tomorrow, but in case I don't have the time to do that, then it'll be next week.

Looks like a real winner Niko. I was biting my nails reading your last post- waiting to hear about something going wrong 😲😨 Glad nothing did.
I always liked the Thunderbolts, with that hood and the air intakes in place of the headlights. Love the red steelies and period mags on yours, and the info about the single wiper, etc.

Thanks John, I'm always biting my nails too when doing the final assembly as there is always a possibility to screw something up. I'm glad nothing went wrong this time! I agree that these are good looking cars. I've never seen a REAL Thunderbolt in 1:1 scale, there is one here in Finland but it's a replica. It has correct engine and drivetrain though, and it's one very nicely done replica. Anyway, I just posted a thread with the Finished pictures in "On The Shelf". Here is a link... '64 Ford Thunderbolt S/S Thanks for looking everyone, and thanks for the kind comments during the buildup! Now let's hope other builds in this thread get finished as well.
