Just getting started on this AMT '64 Grand Prix.
I will be using the chassis from the modern AMT '62 Catalina kit.
Engine will likely be a tri-power 389 from the Revell '66 GTO, or a combination of parts from other kits.
Color will be correct "Sunfire Red" with a red and white interior.
So far I have begun engineering for the mating of the original interior to the modern chassis.
It's a bit of a bugger because the transmission tunnels are not even close in shape or size!

How different is the 62 chassis from the 64? My brother has a 64 Bonneville convertible and I wanted to try to make a model of it. I believe the convertible might have a different wheelbase than the GP. I know they made dealer promos of the car, but even they're as rare as an honest politician.
I believe his is the Sunfire red as well. I painted it in high school in 1974, and the paint has held up...mostly.

As far as I can tell, they are all virtually Identical, or at least close enough.
There are some minor variances between the '62 Catalina chassis and the other 2, but not enough to really worry about.
The largest difference appears to be the shape of the fuel tank, but it's not enough of a difference to worry about in my opinion.
The over all features are very close.
The chassis from the '62 Catalina fits very closely to the Grand Prix body and it appears that the wheel base should be nearly perfect.
The Bonneville is close, but I think the Catalina chassis would require a very slight stretch to fit the wheel base of the Bonneville.
This photo depicts the modern AMT '62 Catalina chassis on the left, the vintage AMT '64 Grand Prix chassis in the center, and the AMT '64 Bonneville chassis on the right.
I was torn as to whether I wanted to start my Grand Prix first, or go ahead on the '64 Bonneville convertible.
The Grand Prix won out!

Modifications continue on the '64 Grand Prix.
I've gotten the interior pretty far along and close to ready to begin refining and priming.
The seats are pretty much finished and the door panels are very close.
The console is nearly ready as well.
I'm in the process now of finishing up the rear arm rests and doing some adjustments on the dash fit.
As this was all being done, I managed to begin the modifications to the body.
The top texture is being removed and I removed the door handles and locks to be replaced later.
As a good portion of the trim is very faint, (the fender well moldings in particular) I have begun re-scribing virtually every piece of trim on the body.
Likewise, I have begun re-scribing existing panel lines, and scribing in missing ones.
In particular the cowl lines as well as the lines around the head light and tail light panels.

The time spent scribing all the panel lines was well worth it , makes a big difference ! As does the extra detailing of the engine compartment . I see you removed most of the filler panel between the grille and radiator and also replaced the radiator support , looks soooo much better . Where did you find the correct support ?

The core support was taken from the AMT '62 Catalina kit, as was all of the other chassis parts.
Yesterday, I spent my time finishing up the scribing, including something that I had been wanting to try, scribing in some window channels in the top.
Then I began the process of adding some headliner and trim detail to the inside of the roof.
I did some of this on my previous '68 Olds 442 build, but this time I decided I needed to do it earlier in the process.
Much easier to do before the paint is on!

Headliner and trim on the inside of the roof are finished.
Sun visors and dome light to be added later.

Yesterday I added courtesy lights to the doors using pieces of thinly stretched sprue, and today I made a set of seat tracks to lift the seats up off of the floor and tilt them back slightly.

Very nice additions to the interior Steve. I really like how you did the headlining. What are you using for the sections?
