Dang, nice work. It reminds me of the Chrysler Turbine colour.

Coming along very nicely Steve and great prep work on that dash. You really throw it all into you builds man.

Thanks guys!
Today, I threw some color on the floor, rear package shelf, lower door panels and dash pad.
this was a custom mixed enamel that was supposed to match, but slightly contrast the dash and body color.
It appears that I got it too close.
If you look closely, you can see a slight difference between the dash pad and the area around the defroster vents and speaker grille.
More of a difference between a flat and matte finish than color.
I guess I need to be a little more sloppy with my paint mixing next time if I want more contrast.
Oh well, it'll do.

First couple of coats of "Sunfire Red" applied.
A couple more to go.
I really like this color!

Agreed, excellent color for that car. Back in the 70's I had a '64 Cat that was that color or one similar. When it was shined up it really glowed and was a head turner.

I have to agree on that paint as well. It's one of those colors that seems to grow on me as time goes on.

Thank fellas!
I applied the foil to the scripts today, followed by the final color coat, and then cleaned the scripts.
These were particularly difficult being as they are so tiny.
It went okay though, and now the body is ready for it's appointment with the clear coat.

That looks GREAT! Can I ask you how you get the foil to stick to those letters? I've been meaning to ask for a while now.

As a rule, I don't have too many issues with the foil sticking.
Occasionally a small letter like on the trunk lid will come off while removing the excess foil, but I just go back and get it again.
Once on, the final color coat will cement them in place, and once the clear is applied, they're not going anywhere.
The tiny scripts on the front quarter panels compelled me to break my cardinal rule and forced me to cover the scripts in one piece of foil instead of individually as desired.
As a result, if you look closely, you will see the edge of those rectangular pieces of foil peaking through the paint.
Fortunately, from past experience, those edges will disappear under the multiple coats of clear coming up.

Must be my monitor, but that color looks copper. My brother's 64 Bonneville is Grenadier Red. It definitely looks red!
I wish I had your steady hand.

It is an "orangish copper" color, but it's deceiving at the moment.
It's been my experience that Scale Finishes base coat lacquers look quite washed out in their raw state.
The color should become much richer with clear coats.
Stay tuned.
I hope to have all of the clear coats applied over the weekend.

You said "Once on, the final color coat will cement them in place, and once the clear is applied, they're not going anywhere." Will you spray the red OVER the letters again, then the clear coat?

I already have sprayed the red over the foiled letters at this point, and then cleaned the paint off of the surface of the letters with some thinner on a conical swab and sharpened tooth pick.
It is now ready to have clear sprayed over it.

I applied the first clear coat last night, then today I foiled and detailed the G/P badges on the front quarters as well as the hood badge, followed by another clear coat to seal it all up.
Another 2 or 3 coats of clear and it will be ready for polishing and foiling.
