Very nice additions to the interior Steve. I really like how you did the headlining. What are you using for the sections?
Just strips of thin styrene sheet.

I'll keep that in mind for when I tackle a headlining.

Today I continued working on a bit of a "hair brained" idea for optional hood display situations.
I started with the static hinges supplied in the AMT '62 Catalina kit.
I first added a plate with a couple of pins to the hood.
Then a slotted plate was added to the hinge itself to allow it to be easily and securely slipped onto the hood.
Then micro magnets were added to the back of the hinge, and implanted into the firewall.
This configuration will allow me to either display the hood in the closed position, or by sliding the hinges onto the hood and snapping them onto the firewall via magnets, allow it to be displayed in the open position without a hood prop, having to make working hinges, or cutting slots into the firewall to allow hinges to fold into. (I really hate those!)
The only draw back appears to be that the hinges will be loose parts if the model is displayed with the hood closed.
I'll need to keep track of them.
In case any of you are wondering, this configuration should be plenty strong enough to do the job that it is intended to do.
One hinge appears to hold the hood open sufficiently.
Two should be no issue whatsoever.

I agree completely about "slots" in the firewall ! On mine I decided to go with what I've done in the past and let you engineer a solution . I've used some of those magnets on another build to hold a bubble top open , they're much stronger than they look . Mine are smaller too , only .062" diameter and hard to hold on to .

Thanks Bob!
It appears that it will work even better than I had imagined!

That looks very very good , and the thickness of the molded hinges doesn't seem to bother me at all ! If we could find a good source for different hinges it would save a lot of work . And the magnets should help with storing the hinges when not in use , maybe a small plate strategically placed on the chassis and painted to match ? I think you've really got something here .

Your work is simply amazing. Sure makes ME feel bad for what I turn out, lol.

Thanks guys!
After contemplating for some time, I decided that I was just a little worried about the strength of the pin system, so I decided to ditch it in favor of a "channel" system instead.
Should be considerably stronger, as well as easier to attach.

Started working on the "unicorn" Pontiac "Slim Jim" automatic transmission today.
Thanks to a donated Johan 1962 Oldsmobile Cutlass engine by a member of another board, I had something to start with.
It's not going to be exact, but it should be a heck of a lot closer than anything else that's available.

I believe that the transmission is finished.
At least well enough for me.
Today I worked on some dash and steering wheel mods.
I'm toying around with the transparent wheel from the '62 Catalina kit, (although that plan might change) and I did a little more scribing for better definition on the dash as well as add a couple of defroster vents.

The plan has changed slightly for the steering wheel.
The '62 Catalina center cap and horn ring are not quite right for a '64, so more mods were in order.
All parts were scratch built.
The spoke parts were made from wedges of styrene sheet and bordered with trim made of stretched sprue.
The center cap was made from several pieces of plastic tubing and rod.
I will add a horn ring, most likely made from wire, when doing final assembly.

Thought never crossed my mind to do 'em that way but that's a great idea for those hinges.

Thank you!
A few more little details to report.
I added some bezels to the gauge cluster, finished the gauge pods, added some age to the transparent steering wheel, and began some work on the dash knobs.

Thanks Bob!
I've finally started a little of the paint work.
The off white will probably get a dusting of pearl and the dash pad, rear package shelf, floor and lower portion of the doors will get a custom mix close to the body color, but slightly different for contrast, and then the floor and lower door panels will get embossing powder for carpet.
