Yep , I saw that too . It's even worse over on the other mags site , they have forum police ( their words ) who are down right insulting to guys who post in the wrong section or ask a stupid ( also their words not mine ) question. I've had it with both places but I keep checking in to see the great models that do occasionally get posted . Some habits are hard to break .

I was kicked off MCM because I dared comment on the Magazine's new policy of not replacing damaged copies that subscribers received in the mail because they are using the lightest weight paper they can and refuse to bag the magazine to protect it. I commented to Gregg that it was the same as telling the customer to F off so he booted me for using inappropriate language when there were a dozen other posts that had the symbols replacing the word they had typed. Unfortunately for me I wasn't one of the "good ole boys" that can get away with it. There is a core group over there that seem to sit and wait for someone to say the wrong thing or God help them disagree with "them" and they attack like a pack or rabid dogs! That group includes one of the Top Moderators too! CUTTIN' CHEEZLE! is just nuts! But then so is Spot Light! I come here, to Randy Ayers and another private site and that's it. Once in a great while I'll go to the other two if a link takes me to something I'm researching.

I'm completely new here, haven't even introduced myself, (I will) , but the first thing I notice about this site (I've been here a few times but never posted before) is how dark everything is, i.e., black background with white letters, I feel like I'm in a closet, or , a dark cave, it actually makes it hard on the eyes. I bet if you 'lightned' up the environment a bit you might have more people wanting to hang out longer. Just my initial thoughts as a complete newbie. Hope this comment is taken in a 'good light! Thanks.

One possible explanation for the shift toward new social media instead of the traditional forums could simply be ease of use, specifically photo posting.
On FaceBook, you can add a photo to your post with a button click. Most ( if not all) of the main forums require you to upload your photos to a third party hosting site (yet another user ID and password to screw up), then copy and paste the image tagged links into the post, and hope the right image is displayed after you post your comment to the community. That has always been a bit tricky for users to get a handle on, even if you are fairly tech savvy. Then Photobucket goes down for months, moving their servers to Elbonia, or the image gets moved and the links don't work.... It's a pain in the ass compared to ease of adding an image on FB or Twitter, or others.
If ProBoards and the other forum hosts would get onboard and host uploaded images under their own roof, it would be much easier to create multi-image posts like we often do for a build thread. Probably not going to happen, though.

Actually proboards does host pictures. It's an option that can be turned on by forum admins. The thing is, that it count towards the space the forum gets for free. Once too many pictures are on, you reach your limit and have to start paying or erasing pics. Either way, a hassle.

There's more and more model groups showing up on Facebook (Big Brother). It's a really kludgey format for going back to things... I love the freedom from ads plastered all over everything that these real forums provide, if they provide it... There are some that are very ad oriented tough. This is my first post, so I'll have to get a better look around. I love the idea of a subject indexed scratch technique section. If it could nest things just a bit but not too much like... Bodies, Chassis, Suspension, Drive train, Engine as categories, divide those into Stock, Custom/Comp, ...I don't know. It can get complicated quickly or help to make things easy to find. Depends on how you go about it and what tools the host gives you. Thanks for the add BTW!

All can suggest is for members who also use other forums, mention this one as well. Some may call it poaching, but it all helps the hobby. If one has friends into other forms, military or specialty, bring them here too. The "other" section here is the place.

I came here from seeing your Facebook group. I was waiting so long for the add that I forgot there even was one, but when I went back, I noticed that you don't allow posts. That's going to turn people off. I get the idea of using it as bait to get people to the board, but maybe allowing some pics and comments on FB and requiring how to posts to be on the forum, might get more involvement. The header for the FB page could serve well to "sell" the disadvantages of the FB format, and the advantages of this one. If there was a way to automate cloning info from each venue to the other, people could post stuff on FB which they're used to and then learn how easy it is to search stuff on the forum, maybe? facebook's like crack for everybody! I confess I spend a lot of time on it. I hate how much I love irony!

I'm new here as far as posting, the dark pages really have a weird effect on my eyes, I've stopped going to the "other" site due to the rude folks over there who think they have to be "mama" to everybody, now that winter is coming on I plan to start posting up some wip of my current winter project...look forward to having some fun here.

How bout once a year have a theme contest, also a section for aftermarket vendors.thanks We are trying that out over on the TRAK forum for the first time......putting on a themed contest that runs the length of this coming year with prizes totaling $700.00 all together. I was thinking of trying out a similar deal here; but participation on this board seems to be lacking quite a bit for having the same number of members.......around 1,300! If all goes well with the contest on the TRAK board perhaps I might be inclined to try one out here next....Ed trakinscale.proboards.com/thread/18207/first-annual-trak-autorama

Is there a 'What did you buy/get today' thread please? I've looked seemingly every where but I can't find one.

I believe you were very close...there is a section (subsection) called Bragging Rights and there is a "what did you get..." thread in there. Little used but interesting if more posts, I think the whole subforum is meant to be somewhere to post recent acquisitions. look herejb
