Well at least by using the block of wood you can just sand it down till you get clearance without having to worry about opening up any holes.

Woods not the greatest for smoothness but if you put a little work into it, you'll never know plus it's a lot easier to sand.
Once I get it to the right size and finish, I'll make a mold for it so I can have extras.

Finally got the oil pan finished, mold made and cast a couple pieces. Here's a pics of what I did and the final result comparing the original and the deep pan. Gray is the master, white is the cast and orange is the original. Now that I'm ready to go back to work on the rest of the build, my grand kids are here for the week.

Just go for it. I just started so I consider myself a newbie, just read the instructions and try it out. It's time consuming but not that hard to do.

Finally was able to get back to my building after the grandkids stay. I was able to get the throttle linkage and brackets on plus a couple brass plugs and adapters on the intake. Now I can start to glue everything in place and get the engine finished.

Thanks. Here's another update on the coil. I decided that the coil needed wiring just like everything else so I got out my stash of wires, microscope, and my handy set of PE nuts & bolts. Oh, I almost forgot, I made the coil bracket by taking a piece of .015" solder and flattened it to make a strap. Naked eye view Microscope view at 10 X How I did it. Using .080" for the post and .018" for the wiring and the small PE washers. I don't know if it's really worth the trouble but at least I know it's there.
