The way you're assembling the model is similar to the frame-engine-etc way they did it back then. Very neat. My fave shot is the one from the left rear looking forward. It looks so real!

The spoke idea I've seen at these sites, but it is both hard and time consuming. I understand your desire though. Pretty much none of the kits with plastic spoked wheels look real. As to the rest so far, you've gone beyond the excellent kit already. Take your time on the wheels, they are challenging.

Is there no way to strip the paint and smooth the body out for a re spray? What the heck happened there?

The cloth has come away from the plastic and got an air bubble under it, it couldn't be in a more prominent place. The decals also seem to have gone wrinkled (I actually think with a little encouragement with a hair drier I could fix that) but the cloth is glued in place with superglue and I know no way of getting that off. Maybe when I coat it with satin varnish it won't notice as much.
