Its actually exactly the same grille shell that came in the Big T and Big Tub reissues, and it is very similar to the Tweedy Pie shell. By "same grille shell" I mean that the original cars came with two shells: the classic T shell, and the cut down and otherwise modified deuce shell (which did not come with the Big Deuce). The shell though is essentially a cut down deuce shell without the rounding of the grille ala the Tweedy Pie. So its close but not exact...for better you might well cut down a random deuce shell instead of using the Tweedy Pie one. here are some pics that show the front end of a real Big Rod I rebuilt last year...note though the front and rear wheels are swapped, by the previous builder and were glued together so tenaciously that I just left them as is: not sure those cover the angle you wanted but there they are. another thing, the coach lamps, I always hated those things but note the Big Rod instead had bullet style lights in their place on the cowl so maybe the mounting bracket should stay? And maybe (don't recall right now) the tail lamps are different from the other iterations as well? jb

Yep , you both are right about the rad shell and grille . I've actually got the cut down shell in my garage ready for paint , it just wasn't done when the pics were taken . And thanks JB for the added pics , it shows everything a lot better . I don't care for the way it's mounted on the Big Rod but I guess there's not much choice . And I've got the small spotlights for the sides and was going to mount them to the windshield arms , also one for the rear .

Here's the cut-down Duece shell and grille . I'm going to sand the bottom of the grille and extend the chrome surround across with a strip of plastic . Thanks Bernard and JB for the "push" to do this instead of the Tweedy Pie shell .

That'll do the trick just fine Bob! You do such nice representations of these box-art classics that it's a forgone conclusion that you'll see this kind of detail and attend to it in appreciation of its importance. Build on! It's gonna look terrific...

Thanks ! I wonder if there's a '32 grille with that cross-hatched pattern .

Didn't get in any bench time this week but since all of the parts were ready I was able to assemble the chassis this morning . On those nights when I can't sleep I play around with my editing programs . Here's a preview of my next two builds !

Time to play with some headers . Here's a good shot of the Big Rod headers . And here the top photo is the headers from the AMT Fruit Wagon . My original plan would require 2 sets of headers so the bottom photo is the Fruit Wagon headers (stripped) and a set from another '25 T kit . The diameter of the Fruit Wagon headers is larger than I wanted but I was going to go with them , until I stripped the other set . The '25 T headers are slightly smaller which will look more like the Big Rod headers (top photo). Now I either find another set or I make do with only one set . Bottom photo shows the new plan . If I can work that joint so it doesn't show thru the chrome it'll work !

I expected the port spacing to be off but not by this much , so I went to an idea I had when I first started this project . Using .080" rod I'll make the headers from scratch , I tried .060" rod but it was too small so the .080" will have to do . Needs a little filler in spots and the flange will be shaped after it is located and glued in place .

After some more experimenting I settled on using the .060" rod and went about making the headers . The mufflers are 3/16" tubing that has been slightly tapered by sanding it down before cutting to length . I'm using an old glue bomb to mock up the parts so I don't ruin anything . Stay tuned !

Thanks guys ! I've had this idea in my head for a while but wasn't sure if it would work , that's why I tried a few different ways first . I'm happy with the results !

Started piecing together a top yesterday . The upper section is from the Tweedy Pie as it has the correct shape at the windshield , the back section was formed by gluing a piece of .030" sheet around the back of a Revell top and trimming to the proper shape . Lots of trial and error getting the correct top profile . After some sanding and the first round of filler .
