Molded-in colors, hmmmm, dunno how I feel about it. I grew up building in unpainted plastic. I came to hate white for that reason, until I started using spray cans. Molding in colors bug me as they need more paint, primer at least, when going light to dark or vice versa. As to getting a perfect match to the original, close seems good to me. Any color looks a bit different in reality, depending on lighting (bulb, fluorescent, outdoors, etc) anyway, so close is plenty good. I never thought of my big scale model built decades ago. it sits there atop a cabinet in its unpainted light yellow. Decal calls it "yellow peril," and the light color looks unusual and almost like paint. I've always hated kits molded in different colors for the same reason . But restoring these old Monogram kits I've learned to like the colored plastic and feel they just look right unpainted .

What I'm enjoying about this project is that it's what might be called Restoration Plus, combining the art of bringing back the look and character of this period kit while adding little technical and detail touches along the way that keep the approach fresh and contemporary. Coolness... I like that . . . "Restoration Plus". Think I may use that in the future !

Weathers been really nice here the last couple of days so I've been outside doing some painting and in the garage doing some resin casting . While I was making the molds for another project I did another quickie to cast the top bows . Now those spare parts can all go back in the box !

OK guys, looked like I opened a can of worms, when mentioning doing a replica or clone. Add the difficult to find rims (perhaps lil Coffin? how do they compare,Bob?) to the stuff you guys mentioned, and I think I'll shelf that project, and like Ron said, hope they re release it like the Bandito, and perhaps they could do the Little T also. So I'll get back on to my Little Drag replica.
Enough of hi jacking Bobs thread. (haha)
Your resto is coming along great. Good to see you're casting. I have been casting for over twenty years, Do not cast when it's humid. Believe it or not, I can't cast all summer here in AZ, because it is too humid. (so much for the dry heat myth) I'm just now coming into casting season. I've never casted clear parts. Thanks for the info.
Great job Bob
Jim

These wheels are similar but much better in my opinion , and they don't have those ejection marks on the face of the rims !

Finished chassis . Nothing fancy here , just some basic paint . You might be able to see that the inner trim rings are missing from the wheels . . . they couldn't be saved . The wheel parts were originally glued into the tires with A LOT of plastic cement , then the whitewall inserts were glued onto the wheels with A LOT of plastic cement . All the parts were pretty much melted ! With a lot of work I saved the whitewall inserts and the mag wheels , but those rings were garbage . Top view . And with the engine in place . Looks like I might finish one in 2016 !!!

Looking god Bob! Got a question though, those slicks with the two grooves in them. Are they from the kit like that? Never seen those before.

Seems like I worked on this all weekend and didn't accomplish a thing . Finished painting most of the parts , then decided that the wheels needed a little more Alcad (they seemed to dark to me) . So taking them apart again was nerve wracking . . . I figured I'd screw something up ! Anyway I did it , and installed the radiator/shell and the headlights . The interior and top were painted Pure White and then sprayed with Dull-Cote . I'm still deciding whether to paint the seat inserts and door panels . . . I usually screw that up too . This may be my last update . Hopefully it will be finished in a few days !

Given the choice, I'd try for painting the interior's inserts. That would highlight the "tuck 'n'roll" look more. Also, is one side of the firewall textured? Hard to tell in the foto. For a guy who says he messes things up, this work is fabulous thus far. Best to you over these busy holidays!

Unless I concentrate 110% on the task I'm doing I tend to do stupid things and end up smacking myself because I know better ! Usually it's fixable before any photos are taken . Thanks for the encouragement . . . tomorrow I paint the tuck'n'roll !

After touching up the black with some white , then touching up the white with some black , then repeating the process a few times . . . I finally got it . Thanks for convincing me to do it ! And the bumpers are installed . The instructions show the plate below the bumper but I think it looks better on top .
