Hi guys ! I've been MIA for a while , other things and lack of motivation kept me away from the bench , but I'm gonna try and get things going again . I picked up this Little Deuce last December wanting to do a stock restoration . It's missing one of the front wheel dust caps and the bows for the top but I was able to pick up some spare parts from a later issue '32 , so I'm good to go ! Disassembly went smoothly with the only casualty being the front axle , luckily I have the spare part . It was painted with black primer under the red and it took two baths to get most of it off . I'll clean the rest with some alcohol before a bit of sanding . Here's my spare parts .

Welcome back Bob! Looking forward to watching your 'Deuce rebuild. Thanks Ron , I'll try to stick around a while . Instead of using the spare part I've decided to repair the broken bumper mounts . I started by sandwiching some sheet plastic together to get the proper thickness , then I traced the shape of the mounts . I started with a couple of small grinding bits in a Dremel to get the basic shape then finished them with some small files . I also filed some notches in the end of the frame to mount them . Mounts glued in place !

Glad to see you're back! Actually I was wondering one day what happened to this Deuce, I remember it from "What Did You Get Today" thread. Great work with those bumper mounts...This is going to be an interesting build!

Clever save there on that original fender unit, I never would have thought of that. I probably would have cut out the whole gas tank with the brackets out of the donor and grafted it into the original. I can fully appreciate that you want to use as much original plastic as possible. Well done.

I probably would have cut out the whole gas tank with the brackets out of the donor and grafted it into the original. I can fully appreciate that you want to use as much original plastic as possible. Well done. Funny I never even thought of cutting the whole tank out . With my luck I would have broken another one of the bumper brackets ! The remaining paint actually flaked right off with very little effort ! After cleaning it really good I sprayed a couple of coats of white primer . And then one coat of Bright Red ! Hmmm , somewhere along the line I broke the tip off of the front left bumper bracket . Oh well . . .

Cute save! You ARE a craftsman. Looking forward to this one. Hope you "dude"this one up. I always had a mixed feelings about the Big and Little deuces. Tho I didn't much like the 6 carb setup, back in the day I did build a similar big scale fenderless one with the 6 carbs. Best o' luck!

By todays standards the Big & Little Deuce , along with the Blue Beetle and other early Monogram kits , were pretty mild . But they were some of the first Hot Rods available in a detailed kit and were very popular .

Nice. That red really pops. Looks like an almost perfect match to the box art. I never thought I'd say this since I don't care for kits molded in colored plastic , but I sure wish this one was molded in red . I like restoring these kits as they were back in the 60's and without painting the bodies . I always end up adding a little bit here or there so I guess painting would also be a part of restoring this one . I wonder what it would look like in white . . .

Good stuff, Bob. I agree I like models molded in white. But oddly enough the Monograms, TDs etc., I like them molded in the correct box art color. If you want them a different color they are easy to paint, but if you are trying to match the molded colors, that can be tough. Such as the newest Pie Wagon, it comes in white, and no gold parts, I just got the 80s release and its a lot darker than that original pink. I'm looking for a piece of original 1960s sprue, to color match, or if anyone has any ideas on a color. Sorry about the hi-jack, there. Funny thing, when they are molded white, I have a hard time picturing them white, haha.
Yes, that looks good in white also. Has that 60's show car vibe. That is a good looking red, I'm gonna have to check it out. The donor I have to do a replica of this, is molded yellow, and has the etching on the wing windows, and I'm sure a lot of other differences.
It was weird that this original one was not molded red. Good job on rebuilding the bumper mount, like Ron, I probably would have cut off the other one, and doing the whole tank would have been smart.

I don't think I've built anything and left it white since I was a first starting out ! I'm not positive about the changes needed to build a replica . Other than the wheels & tires you need to change the grille , firewall , and the carbs . I doubt anyone would complain about the etched windwings . Oh and the taillights are different ! I think I can squeeze one more into my avatar !

All that plus the engine. The original has the 6 carb Pontiac but the later reissues have a loose interpretation of a SBC. I think the headlight bar might be different too but I'm not 100% sure about that.
