Not really random and not really Sunday but was driving by a local storage yard nearby and what do I spy? I don't really know my aircraft but it looks like a DC3 to me. Driving home I run into a friend of mine who is going over to a mutual friends place and asks if I want to tag along. Since this friend is a major car collector/hoarder, I say sure, why not. We get over to his place, I will call him Bill, mostly because that's his name, walk inside the main room, and what do I spy?? Yes, Bill is also an ultralight pilot and has some related equipment around. But to the cars, Bill led me around, first in the main building where all the more promising examples are, and then to the back buildings where more esoteric and/or dilapidated cars reside. Here are some photos, not in order of sighting but possibly more in order of interest to many here. Warning: lots of photos ahead. I may break them into multiple posts. Also, if you are squeamish, you might want to make sure your Tetanus boosters are up to date and don't be wearing open toe shoes! AMX with I believe a 390 in it, starts right up: Note hood leaning against wall. Big Bentley, mid 60s I think: Possibly a Bonneville convert: Well, what do we have here? A Bill Thomas Cheetah, no less, on a tubular chassis. We stuck a nearby nose, he has two, on to it for the photo: Big old Chrysler I think? Another big old Chrysler? Fiat 850 with Bertone nose: Random ski boat: I believe this is a Facel Vega. Big Chrysler hemi under the hood, awesome: frogeye sprite: another frogeye: yet another frogeye: MC Hammers ex-Porsche 924. No kidding. more to come... jb

Kool little Honda pickup: Honda S600, chain drive, I am scheming hard to get this one: Hillman delivery van with buick v8 Jensen Healy: One of many Maserati Quadaporte (?) Another Maser, this one was used in what I think was called the LeMons rally, kind of like Lemans but you start with a vehicle costing 500$ or less and hilarity ensues...this is a (partial, evidently) survivor: How about another Honda, this time on a Suzuki Samarai chassis, somewhat modified, we took a ride around the fields in this once. Nash Healy: One of the first Nissan/Datsuns ever brought into the states: And lets finish this one off with a Nash: more to come... jb

That could be an Oldsmobile over the top of the Healy One of at least two NSU Prinz, I think these have two cylinder piston engines in them: Big NSU with Wankel power: Plymouth? Roller: More than one of these Italian Siatas lying about...Bill said if these were 10 years earlier, they would be worth their weight in gold. These ones though? Pretty much worthless. Plus they look like they took a hard, direct lick from the ugly stick. Another one I want to take home, a Subaru 360. Built a model of it...this is the first one I have ever seen in person: triumph spitfire chassis and running gear: And, finally, a Valkarie I believe, with V8 in the rear: thanks for looking, hope it was as fun as walking around the place in person! oh I forgot: he also has, by my count, at least seven Bradley Fighting Vehicle engines. V8, diesel, turbo charged, strapped to pallets, brand new. I believe he said 800 each. That's not pounds, as in weight, that's dollars. Wikipedia sez: "Cummins VTA-903T diesel, 600 hp (450 kW)". He has sold a bunch of them. My camera batteries ran out before I could take pics of a lot of interesting stuff, like piles of engines and parts to engines and his scrapping area out back, complete with crane and crusher! Bill says scrap is down so low these days its not worth scrapping anything though. He also had a big shelf full of dishwashers. Brand new wrapped in shipping wrap. Bought these in a Customs seizure lot, can give you a hell of a deal on one. Local pickup only! I think I did mention the word "hoarder" in there somewhere. jb

Just some great shots there JB! Thanks for the pictorial walk around that place. I especially like the ski boat, Facel and Nash Healy. The aircraft in the first pic looks to be a Soviet build Antonov AN2 I think the car above the Healy is a '57 Nash Again, great stuff, I could have spent hours there. Thanks.

Good eye on that Nash, Ron, I think you got it pegged. Also that "DC3", you must really know your aircraft to come up with that soviet thing, and I think you are 100% right! Now I got to memorize what you called it so I can impress the guy who owns it when I see him over there!
Why would it have USAF markings though? Those might not be official markings, but they looked like it from the distance I was.

Thanks JB. Glad I could help! LOL. Yes I am an aircraft enthusiast though no expert for sure. I can say that those are not official USAF or Navy/Marine markings for any era that I know of. Your guess would be as good as mine as to what's going on there.

I'm a bit late to the party, but Wow, what a storage on those JB's pictures! As I like to go finding or watching Forest Finds / Barn Finds, those are really interesting. And several of those cars are ultra rare too. Really cool pics, thanks for posting!

Interesting selection this week JB. My eyes are getting red just looking at the last pic and nothing cooler than a cat with an attitude! The Rand Corp projection for the home computer of 2004 is also enlightening. Fortran language for easy use!

Yeah its a good thing they had that easy to use ForTran interface, otherwise those things never would have caught on!
Personally I think every home computer should have a steering wheel, too.
My eyes are red but its from rubbing them because of this pollen! Why I usually try to go to Utah or somewhere this time of year.
