Well finally saw something worth stopping for today, and I predict more in the future. Americas Most Beautiful Roadster, 1951. Restored about a decade ago, and currently residing in Rio Vista CA, about five miles from my place. Check it out... Some details, pinstriping on wheels and hood side panel louvers: lever shocks and front end batwings: flathead Ford: dashboard and leather upholstery: Lady who owns it said she would take me for a ride if I came back when her assistant could watch the store, I respectfully declined and got a rain check for that. Hell, ride, I want to BUY it! This is just one example of what you come across every day out here, honestly. This one happened to be local from its inception, built originally in the little town of Isleton, about five miles away, and kept in the area since then. There are pics of it from back in the day inside the little antique/junque shop. Never even noticed the shop before! Edit to add: Oh, just down the street was the longtime shop space owned by Craig Breedlove, where he built the later Spirit of Americas, or at least one of them. He shut it down a few years back, more than ten now, but forever you could see him out working on his racer. There really isn't much of anything visible anymore, just some trailers and just possibly a couple panels from the car. Craig, I hear, is a very friendly guy. If you want to talk to him, he typically has lunch at a local place, and I hear he is very open to talking. Anyway that's just to let you know what kind of place this is. Abel Chevrolet, again for instance, is a known performance dealership and I think has been since the sixties or seventies, and it is literally right across the street from where the AMBR was parked. They always got all these race Vettes sitting in their sales yard or outside the service facility. And that's in a town with about 5000 people maybe? Edit: 8600. jb

So I was eating at our local taco truck, and what passes by but a number of cars participating in what I believe is called the California Mille (feel free to research and correct me on that). Managed to grab my camera (sorry, no smart phone) and catch some of them. Please excuse the photo quality, I was trying to eat my tacos and they were coming by in dribs and drabs, I missed some really kool ones. lots of alfas present: Jaguar: various 356 Porsche variants: And some less familiar vehicles: This one had a big rumble: AC Ace? or perhaps Ferrari? Nice coachwork: This one is not a Morgan, it was too large for that, and again I believe I may have heard V formation multi cylinders under the hood One more butt shot of it, the license plate may solve the mystery: Then my friend told me to take a look in the back of his shop: Original owner, wanted him to "freshen it up" for him as it has been sitting in a garage for the past two decades. OK that's it for me today! jb

Its funny, I was just about to add to this thread! Had a chance to go downtown today and happened to see this lead sled: not really all that great so I didn't stop to investigate further. But its obviously had some work done. In front of it was this Jaguar XJ-S or whatever, pretty classy ride from before they was Fords: Excuse, as usual with this sort of thing, the crappy photo, didn't feel like stopping and the place was hopping with touristos. Here is something you don't see too often, the only other one I have ever seen was in London a few years ago, but this one was sitting up in the mountain town of Markleyville, 7000 feet or so elevation. Call me nuts but I think that is about the koolest production car I have ever seen. Tiny engine, less than 1 litre, but still has enough power to get itself and two people up to 7k feet elevation. And it straight looks like it is right out of the fifties, except about half-scale. It is from the early 1990s I believe. It looks like a piece of art. I love all the details like the hood ornament, the little lids over the headlamps, the lines on the trunk, and the interior is just as interesting...did not get a shot of it though. Just noticed that photo of sixties Mickey D...looks like there is a Toyota Land Cruiser in the bottom right of the photo. We are everywhere. The other thing today, there must have been some kind of Tesla drive going on. None of them were with any of the others I saw, so it wasn't like a club run, but I saw at least 10 Teslas today, of various description and colors. Handsome cars with fairly innovative styling without being too overboard. Sedate kind of, though they have a commanding appearance. I like the looks of some more than others I have seen. jb

Interesting Figaro...don't think I've ever seen one of those before. Would that be considered a micro car?

Kool pics especially the Orange Crate. And that Renault, ya know. There is a little desert town I visit every now and then called Darwin, and someone there has a few of those lying around his property. Pretty surreal to say the least.

Some seriously nice rod and custom action, there John. It seems most of the cruises where I live mainly feature a rather pedestrian mix of muscle cars and somewhat dated billet era machinery. This is more like it. The chopped Merc and Ford make an impressive pair, and that Deuce 3-window ain't chopped liver, either.

Bringing this one back up just for fun! One of my favorites , as a kid we moved to the .A. area in '67 and one of the first places we went was to Riverside Int' Raceway . Years later in the early 90's I had the honor of meeting both Dan Gurney and Pete Brock . . . I was speechless .
