Thanks for keeping this thread alive, it's always a great source of inspiration! That Street Racing picture where Mustang and Road Runner (?) are having a Match Race is really cool.
I'm already tuning in for next set of random pics!

Can I start using this thread as a "what did you see on the road today" sort of thing? I see a lot of notable cars out on the road around where I live every day, and I carry my camera. I used to shoot all of them I saw, but I kind of curtailed that...but I could start up again. Its amazing how many classic, vintage sports cars, hot rods, modern day exotics, and just plain weird cars come out here into the (Sacramento River) delta on Sunday drives, club meets or just everyday driving.
Anyway unless I hear otherwise, maybe I can liven up this thread on a regular basis, and of course encourage to do likewise. If there is a problem with this please let me know and I will cease and desist. Otherwise I will maybe start up tomorrow.
PS: I lived on Guam during the early sixties and on several other SAC and MATS bases around the world. Played out on the flight line with F-100s equipped with nukes scrambling all the time. MPs would chase my brother and I off and we would ride into the jungle on our little stingray bikes. So I too am or at least was used to being around heavy aircraft overhead. These days its crop dusters flying right up to power lines and trees. Thrill a minute! Not something to trifle with though, and if you read certain current best seller, you might get more a sense of dread than I had in those days.

I've been a couple of times in California and even though there would be no car events at that time, some very cool cars are always seen just cruising around. Here in Finland not so much, especially in the winter, but sometimes even I'm surprised by the amount of old cars that I see on the roads.

Well I have to say, its been pretty slow since I initially posted, not to mention foggy, so I have not had much of a chance to capture any kool kars. But today I was out and about and I ran across something I thought was pretty interesting. I thought it might be a Humber, but a search for photos didn't turn up any matches. Then I thought maybe a Wolseley, but again a search didn't turn up anything real close. Definitely has that late fifties/early sixties British look to it. I messed around with the pic to see if I could see an identifying name somewhere, there is something on the hubcaps but I cannot quite make it out. Anyway, this was the best pic I could grab as he was ahead of me in traffic and he was straight shagging too, there must be a semi-modern, possibly Japanese, drivetrain under there, because he accelerated with authority, I tell you. It was a bit smaller than a sort of similar MG Magnette, but a faintly similar look. Note the doors, center opening. That's pretty unique right there. Anyway, for those who might be interested, you can look forward to this sort of car catching my eye and my camera. I will of course try to get hot rods, classics, and kustoms, and the odd muscle car, but also I have a special attraction to abandoned classics, back of barn mobiles, desert derelicts and oddball exotics. And there are a fair number of them around here. jb

... It was a bit smaller than a sort of similar MG Magnette, but a faintly similar look. Note the doors, center opening. That's pretty unique right there. ... jb That's a Series 2 or 3 Lancia Appia. If it has an MG Magnette type of grill it would be a series 2 version, the final facelift has a more contemporary open mouth grill, to duplicate the later, larger Lancias done by Pininfarina. The Appia was made between 1953 and 1963. It was known for it's 2 unusual features, the suicide pillarless door setup and is V4 1.1 liter engine. It was very popular in Italy as its long production run will atest. Small numbers were imported into the U.S. by Hoffman Motors out of NYC. It was very popular, too, with the Italian coachbuilders because the basic car was inexpensive but with a prestigious nameplate. The result is that there are some pretty famous sports versions of this car. The series 2 and 3 version as seen from the rear: A series 1 showing the less boxy rear end and the grill it shared with the series 2: A series 3 from the front: The pillarless door construction: The tiny 1.1 litre V4: The Series 3 Lancia Appia GTE Zagato Coupe, probably the best known of the coachbuilt Appias and a highly succesfull race and rally car: The Vignale Appia Sports convertible which was produced in small numbers and is contemporary with the special sports bodies Vignale did that lead to the Triumph TR4:

Thanks Bernard, yep that's what it says on the hubcaps, Appia, I just couldn't make it out but with that prompt its obvious that's what they read.
kool little V4, reminds me of the Saab V4 sorta.
and I do think it was a S3...I saw it coming up on me in traffic but by the time I could get my camera out and on, it had passed me and I never could get ahead of it again (due to traffic).
