Greg sent me a new in the pkg 51 Ford resin Carson top a bit ago. I was wondering what in the world could ever I do with that. I got an idea involving an old build that was gathering dust on the shelf, and that was about it. Several days ago, guys on Trak were talking about finding kits for $5 at Big Lots. Last Sat I looked in our Big lots and sure enough, kits for $5. The oldest thing they had were 50 Ford convertibles. I got two of them. Getting home I checked the Fords against the Carson top and thought, " what the hell fun would THAT be? So I got the old dusty kit off the shelf an.. I may just go at it:

How funny you are working on that '55 Ford. I started stripping and chopping that very same model last week! The Carson top is an interesting idea. Mine won't be nearly as unique.

I guess mine won't be either, Kababa. Carson top ain't workin with this truck. So, I've switched to the top off of the Lincoln Gangbuster. It needs some tweaking. Be like the top on the Monkeymobile.

The deeper I'm getting into this, the more it's looking like a bad idea. But, so far, I'm still hacking away at it.

As I was about to caca can this, it started looking more promising. Here are the latest progress fotos: Z'd the frame. I've since chopped about 1/8 inch out of the rear of the top, and added material to the front so it will set right at the rear of the body.

Slo goin. I have a couple of other things goin on. But I do have the hood pancaked and the grilll area roughed in. I'm thinkin I'll make a hood scoop rather that just having a hole in the hood. Will be running the stock grill bar in the front opening.

I have a little more done. Made a hood scoop and did some work on the rear. Tried a rough wheel well type fender skirt, but don't like the look. Maybe I'll mock up a long trailing bubble type to see how that would look. Molding in the tailight lens frames from one of the 50 Ford convert kits. This thing being so open, I' probably have to put some effort into the interior. I DISLIKE doing interiors

ya know what keeps coming to mind for me? it looks like something i would see at a custom show, but not your everyday custom. that top just puts it above the others.

The more you torch, the more I like. These in progress photos are very helpful for those of us attempting similar feats. You did a great job pancaking the hood and the scoop looks good on it too! I seriously thought about pancaking my '55 hood but have my hands full with the chop/section already.

I don't often post builds in primer. It's kinda pointless, unless there's something that is being highlighted. This is the first primer. There is some glazing and more sanding to be done, But, In the background, here, Igor is getting ready to haul out the answer to the question every child asks once in their lifetime. "Daddy, where do fenderskirts come from"?
