Thought I'd show you what I've been tinkering with for the last week and a half. Unfortunately I have not been busy with the camera the way I should have been so you'll have to make do with some crappy cell phone pictures.
This is the kit I started with:
The kit was released in 1981, so I guess it could be an 81 El Camino. I'm not sure though since I am by no means an El Camino expert. To me they look pretty much the same between 1978 and 1981. But maybe someone can tell me the year it's supposed to depict?
I hate the camper, so there is no way I am going to use that. It stays in the box until someone has some use of it.
I sent the Centerlines to a guy who needed them so I had to find some other wheels for this one since I wasn't too thrilled about the original wheels in the kit. I chose the Cragar SS wheels from the AMT 1970 Chevrolet Impala.
I want this one to look almost stock. Therefore I won't be using the sidepipes either. However I have not researched the El Caminos of these years either since the only thing I was after was to build a model that looks as if it could have been ordered that way and that someone somewhere sometime changed the tires and wheels.
I chose to go with an all black exterior and a light tan interior. The pictures aren't very good but I think you can get the idea.
The tan is a bit lighter in reality. I chose to paint the bed cover the same color as the interior to contrast with the black. What cannot be seen in the interior picture are all the silver details that are actually there. It isn't as monochrome as it looks.
I haven't had time to work on this so much the past week and a half, but it is an easy kit so I am almost finished. What remains is the wet sanding, the waxing, the BMFing and the final assembly.
