I'm building two team cars. The Sand Drag Altered on the left, and the 1/4 mile pavement Altered on the right. They will both be painted the same color. I am making the most progress on the Sand version. Here is the engine so far. still needs a couple more fittings and fuel lines. And some paint touch up Thanks Jim

That's a good start. That green air filter really looks the part.

Looking at that motor, I assume you are building in 1:1 scale. I thought this site was for models. Respect...

I started with a Monogram BBC, cut the oil pan off and replaced with a Ford racing pan, that I thought looked better. Modified a finned timing cover from the parts box. Added Grandt Line bolts to the cover I wanted to build a ft. mount distributer drive, such as this. I already had the cover, so I just needed to build this part. I use a lot of lighter parts in my some of my builds. The dist. cap is a kit part, the bottom is a lighter part with brass rod. I used lighter parts on these, dist. and drive, evac valves. Lighter part for evac. valve Thanks Jim

Thanks for the distributor drive how-to. I'll have to start picking up litterbugs' discarded lighters for parts.

Thanks Charley, you don't have to do that, if you want some lighter parts, just let me know, I have plenty extra, LOL Jim

I echo Charlie. Never would have thought to use parts from a lighter. They look just plain perfect.

Hi Dave, Thanks for your reply. I have been using lighter parts since 1980, when I found a crushed one, and I liked the spring. Over the years I have found several uses for them, here are a few: springs on wheelie bars A harmonic balancer I used the body as a fuel tank on a 1/76 truck, also thought it would work on a old style tractor for gas tank, like the one on Green Acres. (Hoyt Clagwell, lol) These are gears, from the Scripto brand lighters, they are pretty cool, but still never found a use for them. Perhaps something "Steam Punk" or MC sprockets? Thanks Jim

This is super interesting, never thought about using lighter parts for a model, thanks for sharing that tip...
