Here's a taped-together mock-up. The '49 Ford body is narrowed at the front to match up with the contour of the '36 hood. The body is widened slightly at the rear so the stock frame/floorboard will fit at the rear axle but the floorboards are trimmed to be narrower near the firewall. The engine, TBD, will be in the normal position under the hood. Feel free to comment -- good, bad or in-between. What would you suggest for front fenders?

Radical seems an understatement Charley. What you have works amazingly well. As to front fenders, I have three ideas, none of which I think works particularly well. 1) Cycle fenders. If you fill the body side from the grille to the cowl then perhaps they might look OK. 2) Pontoon fenders. The type that completely covers the tire so that none of the tire shows. 3) Use the 49 Ford front fenders so that the headlights are almost touching the grille. Again none of these ideas seem to fit what you are doing but it's all I've got. One thought I have is the size of the interior. Shortening the interior so that it is only a two seater (essentially using the back seat for the front seat) might look better.
No matter what I will be following along.

Here's a quick photochop making it into a shortened 3-wheeler.

Stuff the engine in the trunk Charley? Side panels from the grille to the body would completely enclose the front tire which would mimic the unseen rear tires. Could be pretty cool. Rear end could be turned backwards to fit the engine or if you have one a Corvair or VW engine transaxle could go in.

It could get a V8 in the rear with a v-type boat drive or a Roth-esque chromed VW or Corvair. Thanks for the idea!
* pearl, candy, flake, etc. with fogging to emphasize the body lines.

My pleasure Charley. It really is a cool concept, which I believe you can pull off.

NO! NO! NO! Corvair and VW engines are done to death! I'd rip the engine and transaxle from the reissued AMT Barris Tornado " Californian", 455 c.i. HO Fits right were the rear seat back rest is and 1/2 in the front of the trunk. IT WOULD BE BIG DADDY APPROVED TOO!

Charley, he's the way I see it. If you don't open the trunk then you can say that what's in there is an Allison V12. Nobody knows better. :-) If you open the trunk then you have to figure out how to make it fit. LOL

In addition, belly pans can hide everything on the underside. I did post a wanted notice for a Toronado engine/transaxle, though. I can't prove it, but I recall reading somewhere that when Roth was building a new car every year for shows he said that if it didn't have a prominent engine visible (such as the Road Agent) the show goers weren't interested and didn't spend as much at his booth.

Yes one car... the Orbitron a flop at shows because of the hood, he found that the people likes the outrages bodies and his odd engine choices. You could always use a Revell Parts Pack Caddy or 427 Ford as mounted crossways and chain drives to the rear like a go cart. Roth used odd balls. A Crosley in the Mail Box, 427 Ford in his 55 Chevy, Morris Minor in the Surfite a mixed bag of Porshe/VW in the Wishbone and one trike he cut up because his some had the nerve to paint it was a Mazda Rotary engine.

IT WOULD BE BIG DADDY APPROVED TOO! I'm leanin' in that direction. I've traded for a '70 (same tooling as a '66, I've read) JoHan engine/drivetrain so we'll see how that goes once I receive it.
In the meantime, I'm filling the open areas with .040" sheet polystyrene (.060" for the passenger area since it is slightly crowned).

Great work Charley. I like the arrow on the trunk so that you know where the front is? LOL

Well, sometimes I do have trouble knowing whether I'm coming or going. This car's teardrop shape might be more aerodynamic going backwards.
Dumb idea: maybe it should be going "backward" with the Toro engine/drive turned around, too, and the '49 Ford grille grafted into the back end of the "trunk" to let air in. The Toro has steering so it could work but I'd have to open up the fender openings to provide tire clearance while turning.
The Toro started-parts arrived today. I'm beginning to regret shortening the body 3/4" but what's done is done. The driver and passenger will just have a little less legroom than before and the drive axle will be farther toward the rear. The car will be so low that the rear tires will be mostly hidden You can barely see one between the engine and body to get an idea of the location. Once I get more mocking-up done I'll be able to figure out how much to section the body. The Olds 455 will probably have eight tall fuel injection stacks.

You could do the torsion bars like Chrysler did on the Volare, Diplomats, they had a 90 degree bend and mounted where the front sway bar was. A separate bar for each side. Hosted on Fotki
