Sometimes, like for instance after struggling with Flintstone resin and AMT kits for awhile, its really nice to sit back and assemble a truly well engineered kit of an awesome subject. Total time into it so far probably six hours, including body and paint (still needs polish and clear coat) and results like this. Amazing. Really does compliment whatever skills I have left. Its a joy even to test fit, everything pretty much fits on the first go round. Try that with an AMT kit sometime! No alterations, just paint and a Studio 27 photo etch kit of which I am using probably 1/4 the parts. Trying to keep it simple. Paint is hardware store dreck, Gloss Marigold. I had to be very gentle so as not to drown the poor car but it turned out pretty good for a base coat. Covered well, thats for sure. One major problem, the decals were junk. First time I have run across Tamiya decals that just shattered when you tried to apply them. But that has been the rule here so far. So, no sponsorship decals, I guess this will be a privateer car if there ever was such a thing with factory race cars like this one. Anyway thanks for looking and all comments, questions, critiques welcome!

Typical Tamiya engineering! I just picked up a Tamiya Dakar Ford Focus and the Mercedes Le mans car. Your build boosted my impression of the quality! Paul

I recently read somewhere some brainiac said (s)he would not give two cents for a Tamiya kit.
The world is a wonderous place, ain't it?
This thing went together like it was actually engineered to do so. Amazing. But I guess that's just not model building to some folks, I guess you got to re-engineer stuff out of the box to really qualify as such. Personally I do enjoy a challenge but once in a while its nice to have things fit together as they were evidently meant to.
Yeah I prefer a Toyota over any American junk too. Works like it should and continues to do so for 300K plus miles, including a lot of off road travel, with minimal maintenance or repair. Find a Ford that can claim that. But of course one can pick up domestic stuff for cheaper, just like at Walmart, and that probably drives the thought process. Also, Toyota does not offer a hemi V8 with stupid loud exhaust system to impress the neighbors.
Back to the subject though, final pics to come.
By the way, just hoping to get some conversation going on this increasingly moribund forum, so thought I would do some poking...
