As I mentioned in another thread, the owner of the real car handed me the model and said "can you make this into my car?" Not wanting to miss a challenge, I took it on.
This kit had no fitment issues at all, except a little with the headers to exhaust mounting and the windshield wipers don't lay right. Nothing biggie. Luckily, it came with a set of Keystone Classics since he has at least 2 on his car at this time and I think he bought some for the front as well. He's a winter Texan, so I won't even see him till around October or November. Screens for grille and hood compliments of my local head shop.
I don't know if it didn't come with tail lights, the cat got the tail lights, or I just plain lost them, but a little bit of sanding the edges of 57 Ford tail lights, and I was back in business. I decided not to use the ram air option since his car only has a single carburetor and this was the closest the kit had. He's not interested in super detailing, so I didn't do wiring or any real detail. I broke the windshield in half trying to get the sun visors to bend, so I had to improvise, with not the best results, unfortunately. While trying to duplicate the rear of the real car, I noticed the kit bumper seems to have extra chrome trim his car doesn't have. Seems odd as the real Thunderbolt would have LESS chrome trim for weight reduction.
The paint is Rustoleum Apple Red (I used the same paint on my 1950 Ford) with Duplicolor White Pearl for the top. 2K clear applied over decals and chrome. The Olds is based on another of Barry's cars, but I'm keeping that one (I'd like to keep the Ford as well, lol.)
