Monogram 1/24 Deice Roadster, Revisited and Refreshed for sale on eBay
Well it's finally happened. I've run out of shelf space for my models. So I decided to offer some of my earlier efforts for auction on eBay and see if anybody would be interested. The first batch of 10 all had takers, much to my surprise, so I've decided to offer up another bunch. Prepping them for sale is an interesting process. First off it's a trip down memory lane and it's interesting revisiting the mistakes I made, the problems I encountered, and the occasional surprise that the model seemed far better than I remembered it being (or in some cases much worse...). Some of these cars have been tucked away on the upper shelves of my bookcases and I haven't looked at them in years! And of course I clearly remember telling my new modeling buddies back then, a dozen years ago, that I couldn't understand how they could sell or give away their models, and that I for one, would never do so! LOL!
One thing that's clear. These older builds have often become quite brittle with age and parts fall of easily. So virtually all of them have required some rebuilding in order for them to ship relatively intact. Also, some of them have details and parts that I would rather keep for my stash. So in those cases I'm substituting what I hope will be attractive and appropriate parts. In the example here, I wanted to keep the original rolling stock, consisting of the Monogram chromed steelies and the wide whites from ThePartsBox.com as shown here in the original version from 2009:
So I substituted one of my countless sets of Torq-Thrusts accumulated from Revell Deuces and adapted some AMT Firestone blackwalls to the fronts, using the Revell Deuce rears. The effect is to update the car a solid decade or so as a 60's street rod. While I was at it I lowered the front stance somewhat, something the original had always needed. I actually like the overall look as much as I had liked the original all those years ago. Who knows if the buying public will agree with me..
Below are a few more pics. This was built before I became active on DPMCC so here's a link to the original TRaK posting of the completed initial version: trakinscale.proboards.com/thread/4910/ford-50s-style-bellypan-roadster?page=2
Thanx for lookin',
