I had to look up the model designation as it's nowhere on the box. I thought it was a Meteor, and it kind of looks like the Monterrey.
Please ignore dust and cat hair. Cleaning lady comes in on Tuesday.
This was originally going to be this beautiful pale blue pearl clearcoat that I go at HL on sale. I tested it about a year ago and it looked great. Fast forward a year. I couldn't get it to look right over any basecoat, no matter the shade of blue. When it dried, it yellowed.
I removed all trim and formed in the custom rear roof line, that actually makes it look like a Galaxie XL500. Cool! Vent windows were removed as well. The color is Royal Blue Pearl by Duplicolor. I made some graphics that would look good on it, but all I had was clear decal paper. That didn't work. I have to order white and wait for it to come in. I will put those on then clear coat it.
This model does not make it easy to detail. Chassis is all one piece, as is the grille with headlights attached. Just slide axles through and you're ready to go! Torq Thrusts are painted to match the body, but the backing is silver. I think that will change to a darker (but not body color) blue. I have blue glass from the 1971 T-Bird model that fits perfectly for the back window. Windshield will be clear.
There will be no chrome except for the front and rear ends. I really like the stance without having to go oversized tires and wheels.

Looking good there Deuce.I think the S55 designation was the Mercury equivalent to the Ford XL. I like the way it looks with all that side chrome removed from the flanks and you nailed the stance. I have one of these kits stashed and your build here just might give me the motivation to dump it out of the box and do something with it.

If you do and go with the custom front end, I'd like to see how you do the roll pan. It just didn't look right no matter how I tried to put it on. At that point, I decided to go with the stock front end. Decal paper was ordered from China (I hate when I don't notice where things are coming from on eBay.) That might be WEEKS! I guess I'll pull out something else and start on it.
