I am trying to figure out what kit this engine came from. Its a Chevy 348/409 with chrome finned Weiand valve covers, and some kind of short fuel injection stacks. I swear I remember this from back in the 60s and I thought it was from the AMT 58 Chevy, which does have similar valve covers (from what I could see on ebay), but not the injection setup (has three twos instead) and I am not sure about the rest of the engine, block etc. There is no hole in the block or oil pan for an axle to pass through. I seem to recall it just like this, so I think somewhere there is or was a kit with the engine just as we see it. Any guesses would be appreciated, extra points if it is easy (read: cheap) to obtain. And here is a peek at what I am planning on putting it into. Alright, thanks in advance! jb

I just looked at the AMT kit you mentioned, and the valve covers don't have the "WEIAND" logo on them and it doesn't come with injectors, only the 3 deuce setup.

thanks deuce, still trying to figure out where to source one so I don't have to attempt a restoration of the glue bomb I have!

I guess you could look at kits that used the 348/409. That might be an arduous task, though.

JB...I’ve never seen the W motor in that configuration in any AMT kit...maybe it’s kit bashed? The latest rendition of AMT 62 Belair Super Stocker (Northwind livery) has a beautiful 409 with some very similar “Offenhauser” valvecovers. I’m just guessing...but an early AMT injection system meant for a big block Chevy could work. If your interested I could post pics of the parts...
I like the the looks of the project.

Kits from my "golden youth" are in my head, but I remember few with the "W" truck engine. My guess is it's kit-bashed too. If the drastic Plastic instruction sheets are still available on site, you could check the Chevys first.

My guess would be a early amt '63 Impala.

Thank you Bob, more and more I had been thinking the same thing. Now this would be an "early" 63 Chevy, because with later issues they excluded these parts? That's what I kind of figured, myself. If you happen to have a pic or a link to a pic of the box art for the correct thing, I would appreciate it, otherwise I am out looking at ebay auctions. I know it could be kitbashed, but I am almost positive I built this very same motor right out of the box from something like a 63 Chevy, and that would probably have been back in 63 - 65 sometime, so it totally fits.
thanks a lot for the suggestions everyone and if anyone comes up with something specific, please let me know.

thanks man and there they is...can even see the "weiand" on the valve covers.
of course this kit probably goes for a bill or more but at least I know I was correct in thinking it came like that out of the box and now got something to look for!
So I take it these pieces only come in that one original issue (and not the newly issued reissue of the 63 Impala)? Foolish question, I know!
thanks again star! jb

I really don't know.. have bought mine as parts, built several engines with same as in pictures here: .. the other pair (no bolt) is from a 58 Impala,.. or maybe from a 57 BelAir? I do have the 63 Impala from 2002, but they are not included in that one at all. Seems any issue from ERTL does not have it either. Maybe the newly released from Round2?

Ok.. forgot to add I know these of mine where from 63 Impalas (a couple of them in red plastic) but not ERTL's or those early ones, if that is any help. =)
