I have heard a lot of rumors and talk that Rust-Oleum who now owns Testors maybe be dropping a good deal if not all of their hobby offerings in the next couple years. As a result, I am looking for alternatives for its Clear Acrylics; which I found so many uses for! Has anybody used these products or anything similar to them?

I don't know about clear acrylics particularly, but you might try Future floor polish (now called Pledge or Pledge for floors or something) for a clear non-solvent based alternative. other than that (and I stopped using those testors buzz cans a long time ago myself) there is Tamiya clear and flat clear, both of which come highly recommended, although I don't know how well they work over acrylic (if that's what you're hinting you will be using them over) because they are basically synthetic lacquers. There are probably some acrylic clears available at Hobby Lobby or somewhere similar, but I don't have experience with them. And I think either Tamiya or gunze make some acrylic clears though they are probably not readily available in the USA, but that's what the net is for!

Thanks JB! The Testors products I had in mind come in a bottle for airbrush use or painting with a brush. I didn't know Tamiya made a flat clear so I will have to look into it.

I also just noticed Tamiya makes a semi-gloss clear, so at least I know I have a replacement for the Testors acryls. Hopefully, I will find an alternative to the Testors metalizers as well. I really like the Testors products, but I am hearing more and more that they may be out of production in the near future. Hopefully I am hearing wrong!
