I picked these up at a garage sale some time ago for about 2 bits each. #31 Lincoln Continental and #871 Ford Heavy Wrecker (Military) I'm going to restore the Lincoln and customize the wrecker.

Alright then, a little progress here on my little metal models...
Looks like this old bottle of Pactra paint is a perfect match Just need to figure out a way to repair the hook on the truck. This is the same casting as new Any ideas?

FWIW I've been working on the Lincoln. Was lucky to find a repro glass unit. This will look good. Time for paint. A quick shot of fine white Then color. That old Pactra paint was still good, sprayed out nicely after a bit of thinning. Great stuff. I miss it. After a Dremel wire wheel session, a quick blast of metal paint Renewed the wheels with a wash Calling it done. Before Now

Hi Ron, Wow, this came out nice. I miss the old Pactra paint too. Good score with the replacement glass, people may not realize there are a couple places that are reproducing glass for some Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars. Looks as good as a perfect original. Jim

Jim Thanks Jim! I got these in today for future restoration. Decals and repro missing parts on the way! Can't find a replacement glass for the 59 Chevy though. I think it needs one.

Just noticed this new section , what a great idea ! I guess we all grew up with Matchbox cars , they're probably the first cars I ever painted , and I used the Pactra paints on all of them ! Your Lincoln came out great , looks as good as new ! Can't wait to see more restorations . Can you share where you buy repro parts and decals ?

It's a lot of fun. Yep I grew up with Matchbox cars too, as a matter of fact, years ago when I last visited the house I grew up in I was kicking around in the backyard my old T-Bird surfaced. Looks like I painted it black. I'm going to try to restore it, probably when my skills get better LOL Should look like this: AS far as getting parts, I'm new to this but there is a good seller on ebay "Toyresto" that I got the glass from. They have a lot of other decals too. I just ordered from these two : www.recovertoy.com/shop/www.modelcarparts.com

Hi Ron, Leave that T-Bird as it is , some things shouldn't (or can't) be restored. I've been modifying die cast for 30 years, a word of advice, the metal will break, before it bends back in place, it has a one bend rule. That's why so many Matchbox motorcycles have broken handle bars. They bend, then when you try to straighten them they break. Other sources for parts and decals: www.ebay.com/usr/scredlines and www.ebay.com/usr/wizardwallets_3 and www.ebay.com/usr/toyrestoThese also have ebay stores. Love the trucks and bus also, the cab should be an easy resto. Jim

Can something like that be formed back into shape with with the application of heat?

Hi Ron,
I've never tried putting any heat to these. I've been a metal worker the better part of my life, so I would guess, probably not. This type of metal has a low flash point, you would probably do more harm than good, and it could break even easier.

I think will leave it in "as found" condition. I've got plenty here to keep me busy!

My local Mega Mart restocked the Matchbox and I was surprised to find this Dodge. I picked up a few of them. Should be a fun "back to stock" conversion.

Really nice work Ron! I love these old Matchbox cars, I had lots of them when I was a kit (and of course I still have them ), I remember very well playing with the same Lincoln that you just restored, and that Wrecker Truck looks familiar too. When I was a kid, these were already really old and that's why I thought they were much cooler than the more common Hot Wheels cars. Great job on restoring the Lincoln! I'll definitely keep an eye on this thread... And maybe I'll dig out some of my old Matchbox cars as well that are clearly in need of restoration...
