Earlier this month I pulled out this, on the bench, off the bench project I started back in 1989, when this kit was first released as a new tooling. Still gonna remove the chrome trim after drilling mounting holes, and rework the scoop some. Badman traction bars, RD Unique coil over shocks, scratch built drive shaft loop. Scratch built straight axle, leaf springs, U-bolts and mounts. Detailed with Grandt Line bolts. Still need to clean up bolt ends, and add nuts. Extended lug bolts and valve stem on rear wheels. MPC 57 Chevy headers. Ft shock mounts. I have a real nice set of M/T valve covers, to go on. Scratch built tow bar and mounts. Radio delete. Removed rear seat, and filled with sheet plastic. Scratch built 5 point roll bar. Lightening holes, and scratch built Moon tank mount. I'm scratch building a single Quad tunnel ram intake. Thanks Jim

Looks like a bad ass! All of your chassis mods and scratch building look great. I'm a big fan of the Grandt Line hardware, too.
Too bad they molded the muffler and pipe into the floor.

Good detail work and overall execution. Just goes to show that this style of build never gets old! Still looks great and current!

Hi Dennis, I use the Grandt Line bolts on a lot of stuff, including my 1/12 scale Harley engines. You are so right about the molded in exhaust, it has bothered me for years, so I decided to do something about it. Here's the chassis with the exhaust. Only the muffler molded through the chassis, the pipes are molded on top. I ground it all down with the Dremel. Then scraped it with a X-Acto stencil cutter. After the exhaust was gone, I decided the gas tank and spare tire well, had to go also. Then filled it all with sheet plastic. Once it's painted shouldn't be able to tell it was there (I hope). I'm gonna take a couple days off from this, to finish a big resin casting project I'm halfway into. Just hope it's not another thirty years til I get back to it. (haha) Thanks Jim

Man, that chassis looked like Swiss cheese for a moment. Nice job removing those pesky molded in details.

Very good looking '55! I think you nailed the overall look with that mock up. Nice work with all of the scratchbuilt parts and details, too. Especially the front suspension is looking very realistic. This is going to look great when it's done, so keep the updates coming.
