A somewhat unknown Japanese sports coupe, the Isuzu Bellett was more or less a BMW 1600/2002 competitor, and this kit offers a choice of either the 1600 GT-R, or the 1800 GT, a bit more luxurious version of the earlier, more sports oriented car, the 1600 GT-R. I am actually mixing them a bit. Biggest change from the kit are the wheels, tires and brakes. Super monster brakes. No problem stopping this puppy with those 15" rotors on all four wheels! A bit ambitious for the 1.6/1.8 litre engines, but ready for the turbo upgrade!
Anyway, many may not know of these cars much less the model, so here is the box art with some parts on it...
The two versions as can be built from the kit:
Body is all painted and just needs the top polished and the window trim done
Wheels and tires, and brakes. I wanted wheels to match the box art which I assumed came with the kit. Wrong about that, but I had some Wantanabe eight spoke wheels that I cut down (way down on the front) and look the part, plus the wheel set they came in also came with the monster Brembo brakes, which I detailed up a bit. They tuck up into the fenders very well though in the front that was a challenge that required cutting the inside of the wheel and the mounting surface on the struts down to a nub. We will see how it sits shortly but all test fittings have looked good: low and lower without having too much camber.
Simple chassis has been painted and I substituted some polished aluminum tubing for the steel axle the kit supplied. its kind of amazing how nice these chassis can look with a little painting:
and a quick look at the interior:
again, pretty simple though the detail level is nice on the dashboard and side panels, they were easy to paint too,
Ok folks thanks for looking, this one will be finished up pretty soon and I think it will look better than the sum
of its parts!
