Doing this for a christmas buildoff I run on a Swedish forum. It has to be done between christmas eve and new years eve. Fresh from the box. I had a spraycan with a color changing paint and it turned out great. Until it started to etch the plastic. So it went into the bath and I think I will do it flat black since the body is not in so great condition anymore and I don't have the time to sand it smooth again... Finally found the right wheels and tires in the parts bin.

Interesting! You don't see many of these T-Birds built! Now since you thought about painting it flat black, I'd try building it as a Swedish "Pilsnerbil/Raggarbil" (Whatever that would be in English...Beater? Rock'n'Roll Car?). I'd wanted to do one for years, but unfortunately I'm bad at weathering models...

Is that spray paint on your hands? I thought I was the only one that ended up like that, lol. I used color changing (flip-flop) paint on a car and it did the same thing, however using a 2K clear over it covered any of the etching mine did. Interesting box yours came in. Here is the one I built last year.

Yeah, I'm going that route I think, but more old school, I am not very impressed by all the beat up wrecks from nowadays...

Yep I'm not a very big fan of those "Pilsnerbils" either, but I for sure would like to do one as a model. Well, maybe some day I'll try my hand at one. Edit: WOW, I just checked from Google and man those Swedish Pilsnerbils are beat up! Their Finnish counterparts are a loooot cleaner! I didn't even remember that they were that bad in Sweden.

Well, the US car culture have taken some weird turns in Sweden and I don't like it. Sure the cars of that scene in the 50s-90s often were beat up, but just because they had lived a hard life, something happened in the 90s and seems to be getting worse for every year, where they really started to do everything they could to make the cars look as bad as possible, and when I see a group of youngsters with hoodies dancing on the roof of the car to some techno remix of Eddie Meduza songs, I almost get ashamed myself, often people that have no genuine interest in US cars and just want to party and get attention... Nah. I don't like it.

Most of them are built from very poor starting points so that's why they are not so clean... But seeing a group of people purposedly "destroying" a car by jumping on its roof and trunk is very rare around here. And I'm so glad that we don't see that activity around here! This is pretty much how they look around here... '61 PontiacAnyway... Your flat black paint job looks great! Interesting to see how it looks when you're done.

Yeah, I remember the 66 Fairlane my father had in the early 90s as somewhat of a good example, sold new in Sweden, probably too many owners for its own best. Gloss black but with some cheap paint that needed to be polished every now and then, the interior in far from great condition with the dashboard cut out and a Chevy Malibu dash welded in since it was the only thing they could find after a short and fire in the orirginal gauge cluster (I think the Chevy fuel gauge went backwards, LOL!). Loud pipes and Cragar SS, so I thought it was a really cool car back then, hehe. But well, not a beat up POS, but still far from some showroom resto, just like many cars looked back then. A friend of him used to run around in a 4 door 66 Galaxie that someone had tried to paint with tar as a cheap source of black paint, that was really considered rough back then but it looked far from some crap nowadays.... (He actually had a quite rough 71 Thunderbird too, but I was too young back then to remember) I also remember attending a cruise night some years ago when I had put some decent clothes and shoes on..... Of course there was some sweaty hoodie wearing drunkard that immediately started talking to me and make fun of it, asked if I came straight from a wedding or something... Getting tired of some people...

The story about that Fairlane sounds pretty much it could have been done here in Finland too! Many of those cars that were sold here as new have indeed had probably too many owners and every one has fixed them with whatever spare parts they had laying around... Back in the day finding parts for these things was definitely not easy around here so people had to be creative. Nowadays it's just so much easier, I can drive to a local American Car Parts dealer and they have most of the stuff I've ever needed in stock. And if they don't, they'll get it in one or two weeks. But one thing that I admire is that back in the day at least here in Finland, pretty much all American Cars were saved/rebuilt, no matter how bad or rusty they were. For example I've seen pictures of a few guys digging up the remains of late '30s Ford from a swamp in the winter... And I don't have exact info on that, but according to some rumors, the car was put back together with a lot of hard work...Major respect to those guys. Hopefully no one gets offended because of this major offtopic in here....

Duct taped the torn seatback on the drivers seat, an american flag blanket covering the worn back seat and the beer carton ready for the weekend.... (Note that I do NOT think that this is a respectful way to use the flag, it does NOT represent my opinions in any way, it's just the way it will probably look in real world way too many times, keep in mind that we're talking about stupid swedish idiots now....so I hope that this doesn't offend anyone since it is a representation of how it could look in a real car....but if it does I will remove my post, so just tell me) Red rear axle is of course a good match to the red front suspension and wheel wells...

Looks like a good kit! Thanx for your dedication to some overlooked U.S. cars.
