Very cool! Normally I'd skip a cartoon car, but the S.W.C. car was THE big thing in their day. Thanx for warming up this cold rainy day with some fun!

Hi Bob I've just won an ebay auction for the Willys Pickup Snap Draggin. Does your 'Smoke' round the back tyres come in the kit? If not how do you make it please?

Hi Bob I've just won an ebay auction for the Willys Pickup Snap Draggin. Does your 'Smoke' round the back tyres come in the kit? If not how do you make it please? Hey Pat , I saw that you won the Willys pickup , cooool ! The smoke is not part of the kit . In fact a little warning , these kits are very very basic and if built out of the box you will be disappointed and never buy another ! At the very least they need a blower/scoop swap for something more realistic , and some fancy paint work and detailing to look like the real thing . For the smoke I tried dozens of different ideas until one day while caulking my shower it hit me ! The caulking can be 'pushed' into puffs like smoke but they all sag from gravity and ruin the look , even the silicone caulks sag too much . You need to find a tube of White RTV , it won't sag even if it's upside down ! It takes quite a bit of practice to get the look right then apply it to your model . Once it's dry it needs some Dull-Cote brushed on to kill the shine . Good Luck !

That's a really cool Willys! These Car-Toon models are always fun to watch, and this one is not an exception. Very nicely done overall, but I think the flames and that tire smoke really make it stand out. Nice work!

The Willys has always been a favorite among racers and hot rodders and I'm happy to see that everyone likes my Car-Toon version .

That's how it should be built! 👍👍
So true about the kits being so basic Bob, but good base to start with. I think your making the front tires whitewalls and the headers white, totally transformed it, but then the scoop, smoke, flame, chute cord, etc, just put it over the top.
Cool idea, the caulking. Cotton can be used as well, but it's just as tricky to work with as the caulking sounds.
Basically, you pull the cotton: balls, Qtip, etc, to get the really thin wispy look- that can still be seen. I used an artist fan brush, dipped in ground yellow & orange pastel dust to both shape and color the Qtip flames on my Ford Gasser. Light touch, and no water.
Keep 'em coming 😊

I like how the caulking looks like solid plastic. Making it work, which it does really well here, is about getting the shape right, not so much realistic and in keeping with the cartoon aspect of the model. When it's done right the fact that its a bit shiny is actually "part of the program", rather than being a fault. Cotton's challenges are on the other end of the spectrum, attempting to make it evoke the (loosely termed here) "realism" aspect of smoke. But there's never any question of either of your models being realistic so it's inevitably a matter of making sure it integrates into the overall look. In so many ways your two models couldn't be more different from each other, which is what's so cool about them, since they both work so well.
