I've got a couple of these waiting to be built both of them molded in the usual black plastic so when I saw this one I grabbed it quick ! I've never seen one before but I'm sure they're not that uncommon . It sure is pretty !

Now that you mention it I think I've seen a yellow one too . I wonder if they were molded in blue and in green too like shown on the box ?

Nice find. I like those kits and have a few originals (black) too. I only wish they had tooled the correct '58 wheel covers for it. Could your red one possibly be this issue reboxed? Here's a shot of yellow and cream colored ones (not mine). Not sure if they were issued in any other colors. Note the stickers on the boxes calling out the color.

When they went from a 2 seater to a 4 seater, I lost interest. For Ford it was a smart move as they sold a ton of them. Styling was always a matter of personal taste. I think I have a "built-up" one I bought ('59?) decades ago at a model convention, tho I never did anything with it. Mine was in white and at the time I hoped to do it over as a NASCAR racer. Thanx for the fotos and memories. I am most grateful.

Thanks for the photos , that's interesting . It seems it probably was reboxed , but they did leave in the red taillights . No double-bubble either but I have a spare .

Would that be about a 5000 lb race car?

Would that be about a 5000 lb race car? Possibly but properly prepared and with a 430 Lincoln engine and 4 speed they did OK!

Would that be about a 5000 lb race car? The stock hardtop '58 Thunderbird weighed 3800 pounds so as a race car it could have been less than that . After doing some more looking I'm sure what I bought above had been reboxed , lack of knowledge bit me . But that's okay since it was listed as incomplete and the price was right .

The box model is the color of the molded plastic.
