There is this annual "Cannonball Run CBP" on Model Cars Magazine forum again. The idea is that starting in January 1st, participants build a model of a car that could compete in that race and the race starts in December by a voting that will choose the winner. Before I start with the actual subject, let's take a look of my previous entries for this race:
In 2012 I built that '57 Chrysler. The theme was "Where Were You In '62" or something like that so it was just perfect for me as I like to do old school. I built it with some little modifications from AMT kit and surprisingly it ended up 2nd in the final voting!
In 2013 I started that '69 Torino for "Unlimited" theme, but I didn't get it finished because I screwed up the paint job on it and there wasn't enough time to re-do it anymore, so it has been sitting in its box ever since. It has a Ford Big Block with a scratchbuilt Pro Charger setup, scratchbuilt roll cage and some other little modifications. Some day I'll finish it!
In 2014 I can't remember if it was Unlimited theme again or not, but I built that Dodge Charger Daytona from AMT's kit. Now a little tip, I recommend staying away from that kit, it's not the best one out there! But with a blown Hemi, bunch of scratchbuilt details, one piece front fender/nose unit and bunch of other modifications, I finished the 2nd or 3rd in the voting (Can't remember for sure).
In 2015 the theme was "Sleepers". So I started to build an ultimate sleeper, a Trabant with a single turbo SBC! Unfortunately I was extremely busy that year and I couldn't get much done. I'll finish it some day though!
Last year I took a year off, as I was so busy with other stuff, but this year with the Unlimited theme, I'm in! I wanted to build something a bit different though, so I took out this pile of Jo-Han Turbine Car pieces from my stash. There are some bits and pieces from two different Turbine Cars and I'll try to combine them into one. Lots of stuff is missing, but it doesn't matter, this build is not going to be Box Stock. My plan is to install a normal engine under the hood, but will it be a Mopar or Chevy mill is not sure yet. I want this one to look pretty much old school, but to keep up with the others who are modernizing everything I think I'll have to add some modern touches on this one too (Like electric fuel pump and that kind of stuff).
The first thing I have to fix is those broken A-pillars. Luckily the pile of parts has another engine bay unit with one broken A-pillar so I'll have to scratchbuild only the other one.
So I copied the A-pillar shape in kitchen foil and now I've started filling the foil "master" with super glue. Let's see if this works...
If I can fix those A-Pillars, then I'll gotta strip the paint and start the actual rebuilding!
