I'm building a replica of my fathers 1964 Galaxie... ....but since the old 64 Galaxie is such a simple model, a 60 Starliner I build 10 years ago will be donor for the most stuff. Here I've cut out the hood on the Galaxie and put the body over the Starliner chassis and as you can see the fit is very good. True, it SHOULD be since the 60-64 Fords share the same chassis, but that's not always the case in the modelling world. They got the wheelbase right too.

I found the correct wheels in the MPC 67 Charger, and here they have been painted with a coat of humbrol metal finish for a matte look like the real car. Neither I or my father likes polished/chrome TTs anyway, so. The tyres are only temporary to see how it looks, I probably have some better ones somewhere without a thick coat of glue smeared all over the sidewall...

Cool build. Love those big old Fords.

One of the few modifications that has to be done, cutting the frame and floorpan a little bit in the rear. The most important thing now is to fit the body and interior/floorpan/engine bay, so I'm concentrating on that now, here's the floor with blue flocking. Since there was no pedals on the Galaxie dash, I moved them from the Starliner.

Since this car has a quite rare optional extra side trim, it was of course not on the model, so I added some evergreen strip which I may file down a bit thinner later. Bought some paint that seems close enough to the original skylight blue. Will use white primer under it for the best result, I think. The Starliner bench seats doesn't have the correct pattern, but they are close enough. More true to the 1:1 car than the 4-seat XL interior anyway.

Well that's interesting. I've never seen a '64 with that extra trim. Well done.

Well that's interesting. I've never seen a '64 with that extra trim. Well done. Wonder if it was only available on the 500 or XL models , must be pretty rare . I like it ! ---I just Googled it and out of hundreds of photos there was only one , a Turquoise Blue Convertible , that had the moulding !

Unfortunately that trim piece was a little bit crumpled in a fender bender once so we were quite relieved when we were able to save it..... (at least Ford used stainless steel and not aluminium in their trim, thanks a lot!)

The 1960 door panels are a bit wrong too, but hey, at least the look is a bit convincing now, I think. Since the plastic is so thin and transparent, I painted them silver on the outside..... Dashboard. I don't like white gauges, but since Ford appearantly did in 1964, that's the way they'll be. The paint may be a bit too dark and a bit too green, but a quite close match at least. A bit of orange peel but I put on three coats so I can sand it without going through, then the clear will make it glossy.

Only a mockup, but I think that the look of the full scale car is captured quite well now...

Nice job! Good stance, too. I really liked the faux convertible style top that Ford and GM had back in the early 60s.
Oh, and when your done, pose it in the same position as the picture and lets compare them. You've almost got it like that in the last picture.

And you probably knew it already but the rear portion of the roof ain't just styling, it actually works a bit like a spoiler too, Ford came with this roof to improve aerodynamics.....
