I did a little research on tinting windows and from what I read, it seems that the Tamiya Smoke PS-31 was recommended the most over other brands. It says to just lightly mist the window waiting in between coats for it to dry until you get the desired tint darkness. Well, I've got 3 coats on so far and although it is tinted, it is more satin looking rather than nice clear tint. In other words you can tell it's just misted on. My question is has anyone used this paint to do their windows and if so, did you lightly mist or spray a little heavier than mist? Here's a pic of the window up close and you can see that it is very grainy. From further away it doesn't look too bad. This is with multiple mist coats as directed on the Tamiya can.

I've used this brand and others before and I agree that this is the best brand. Not perfect, the best one to use in my opinion. I found the best result when I sprayed only the inside of the window and then buffed it just like paint to a smooth finish.
Personally I prefer a couple of uniformed thick coats as long as the paint is not too thin.
Have you tried taking that same paint and airbrushing it on instead? I hear that works wonders.

Here's how it came out and I'm happy with it. I cleaned off the RIT dye that I had tried before and sprayed the Tamiya Smoke on the inside with medium coats instead of mist coats until I got the desired darkness.
