I may as well come out with the changes in Kustom and Hot Rod Models magazine now. Circulation of the magazine has been falling ever since issue #1. The magazine has been getting better, but the sour economy is taking it's toll. Unemployed people can't (and shouldn't) get the magazine. I have doubts about the economy improving much, and feel the elections will significantly affect it. Even though current readers love the magazine, I think I may have overestimated the quantity of those that would support it. I'm on the edge right now where it's questionable whether to continue it or not. The only thing keeping me going is I really enjoy doing it.
Most hobby shops have gone out of business, aftermarket suppliers are on the edge - even modelexpress.com has announced it will be shutting down the end of the year. Slixx Decals was going to close, but apparently had a good enough response to stay in business.
Elections: If the current administration stays in power, I will be reducing the issue quantity from quarterly (4) to either semi-annual or an annual. If the challenger wins, I will be cutting it back to three issues a year. Either way, the page quantity will be cut and adjusted for my expectations.
The good news is with cutting page count, I'll be going back to the larger format, which will help fill in for the eliminated pages.
One year Subscriptions may be eliminated for 2013 - I haven't decided yet, but the value of keeping subs going is also on the edge. It's a lot more work for me, and those who subscribe are the ones that would get it anyway.
I'll have final decisions and information in the last issue of 2012 in late November.
