What kind of air brush do you guys use when spraying metal flake paint? I've got 2 of them, one is an old Badger series 100 I believe that I have had for at least 20 years and the other is an iwata Eclipse HP-BCS which I got a few years ago. Neither one will spray a flake paint for more than 1 minute without getting plugged up by the flake. I know they have different nozzles you can get but I have no idea which ones came with the ones I have. I want to try painting with some nail polish that I got but the only way I can do that right now is using a mini touch-up gun which I would have to have at least 10 bottles of polish. Here's what I have

There must be stuff on the web and DR CRANKY would give definitive straight story for you. He uses IWATA mostly. I haven't mixed my own metallics, but I've seen in the past on Y.T. somebody mixing fine "flake" dry with paint, so I know it can be done. I have Paasche with 3 tips and believe the biggest would spray anything if thinned enuf. Hope this helps, good luck and keep paintin'!!

I just ordered a .5mm needle set for the Badger so we'll see what that does when I get it.

I have not tried it yet because the weather has just been too cold but it's starting to warn up so I'll be trying it pretty soon. I can tell you though that a fine or medium tip didn't work for me. It also depends on the size of the flakes. If I remember I'll try to post the results here when I know, if not, remind me.

Now that you have a larger tip, that should be good. The only other problem can be the paint drying too fast. If memory serves, sometimes if the pressure is too high, then paint dries almost on contact. Or, if it's really low, under 12 lbs (?) thick paint or flake can clog. If you still have trouble, try sending a message to Dr Cranky. He's had experience and knows those who use flake. Maybe one of the companies that sells the flake may have something on the web too, or you tube.
