Now that I have the 55 junker done and photographed on a pile of dirt, I need to find some way to keep it. Using an old License plate frame as a starting point, I made a 1/8" wood backing board and started cutting some leftover plexiglas scrap. hint: (Plexiglas can be cut nicely on a radial, or bench saw, by being careful and having a fine toothed finish blade installed backwards). Here I have notched one of the long side pieces to clear the mounting tabs that are on the frame. You see that I'm trying to keep the protective covering on the plexiglas as long as I can. Using my old picture frame clamps, I'm gluing the ends and side pieces. Would have liked to use clear silicone, and may have to if this canopy glue doesn't hold. Trying to use what I have and not make a trip to town.

The model sat too far down behind the barbs on the license plate frame, so, I got a piece of 1/2" styrefoam (weight factor) and covered it with dirt. Brown latex house paint as the adhesive. Little bit of fencing to lean the hood against. Don't want that nice rusty engine covered up! Oh,yeah. works just fine. Canopy glue seems to be holding allright, but I haven't subjected it to any stress, so it'll do for now.

I haven't danced on it, but it seems to be up to normal handling.

I have to say this is the first time I have ever seen anyone build a case like this. Nice job! Now you can keep the dust off that ....dirty car.

I just ran across this thread, and this is such a great idea. I can think of one enhancement to the display. One or two HO scale trees cut to look like small shrubs, bushes, or wild growth and placed around the perimeter may look good. Atleast, in my mind's eye!
