I found this cool deal on my local CraigsList > ventura.craigslist.org/art/2247928898.html The ad shows one Revell 1:8th scale Harley model and one Monogram 1/48th scale P-47D airplane model, both for 5$. The ad then went on to say "Also have some unbuilt, but incomplete car models from the 70s you can have if you want."
So I emailed the person but I didn't think I was going to get an answer because the ad had been up for 6 days before I found it, and I thought for sure it would have been sold before I found it but it hadn't. When I got there, the guy tells me about the kits he had other than the two mentioned. He went on to say he had got these kits when he was younger and he never got one of the completed, and that when he got them he started mixing and matching parts and before he got anything finished he put them away, so he really wasn't sure what parts were where. So he opens his trunk and this is what I see, I picked up all this for 5 bucks + gas for 30 mile trip.
When I get home I start checking things out. The first thing I looked at was the Electra Glide because I want to build this one, everything inside is still in the plastic with no parts off the trees, and the same for the P-47.
Then I started looking through the other boxes and at first it looked like it was all junkyard stuff, but after I had looked through all the boxes, almost everything is present, but was all mixed up between the boxes, By the time I was done sorting it all out, the Monogram "Boss A Bone" copyrighted 1970 is all there. most of the parts except for the chrome trees have been removed from the trees but everything looks like it is there. The decals are there but the paper the decals are on has turn slightly yellow from age, just as the instructions have done. I looked over the instructions and I have to mention that this is one of the best set of instructions that I have seen from that era, with each step typed out explaining which part number is cemented to which other part number with a circle at the front of the step so you could check off which steps have been completed. at any rate I like them a lot and wouldn't mind if some of the new kits would have this style of instructions.
The 43 Willys Drag Pickup (H-1201) is basically in the same condition as the BossABone, meaning I had to "go fish" for the parts in some of the other boxes to complete this kit.
The Revell "Super Spurt" car is an NRRH, Chevelle SS Funny ca, copy-written in 1971. This one was a little harder to come up with the parts but I think I found most of the parts but there might not be enough to finish the kit without looking for other parts to fill in where other parts are missing.
The "Bug Bomb" box was full of parts and after sorting the box, I came to the conclusion that the "Bug Bomb" is missing in action and could not be found. The box did conceal a lot of the parts that helped complete the other kits and when I was done, the box was almost empty but did reveal 80% of a front engine dragster. I'm not certain who made it or what it was born as, but in order to get it even to a rolling chassis will take some work. It is in good enough shape that it could be a nice project car or donor type deal if ya know what I mean.
Lastly is the MPC 1/16th scale “Buddy Baker NASCAR 426 Hemi Charger". Unfortunately a lot of the big parts of the kit are missing such as the main chassis, some of the body parts. The bummer of what “is here", is the poor box and the thrashing it has gone through, (non recoverable). It has some cool box art with a picture of Buddy Baker holding a trophy and a pic of the car on the track. I could not find a copyright date. I looked all over the box and the parts but could not find any date markings, copyright or otherwise.
The NASCAR logo on the box consists of a pair of crossed checkered flags, with winged toon type cars overlapping the flags on each side of the logo, with the word NASCAR, on the top, and the word, International on the bottom. I don't know when NASCAR might have used this logo, but from the looks of the car, it might be around 1970'something. If anyone knows the year this kit was released, I'd like to know just for the “Gits & Shiggles” of the whole thing. LOL
Anyway, if anyone knows of someone that might be looking for parts to restore an old build of any of these kits, or someone that needs a complete 1/16th scale 426 Hemi racing engine, I might consider parting it out if the trade or price is right. If someone is interested in getting iany of this stuff and would like me to post some photos, please just let me know and I’ll take a few of the parts that “are there”
Catch ya’ll later..
