I did manage to pull myself away from the X-Box for a bit yesterday and tested out a new product for a reputable model finishes company yesterday... I am testing his new water based primer and man is it nice but, it's not really friendly to the novice air brush user, like me... In my first attempt I thinned it down 50/50 like I would with a laquer or enamel, WRONG!!! This stuff likes to be put down just a bit thicker, needless to say I threw on a VERY light dust coat and let it set about 10 min. then came back and dusted it again... Now like I would with other types of paint I let this set also and came in with a heavier coat and this is where it went to he** for me, the paint almost literaly ran off the hood I was priming.
So off I go to the sink and rinse her off and wipe it down with 91% alchohol and start over. This time I built up my coats very slowly, by the 5th coat I was able to lay one a good heavy coat, I let this coat set for an hour and then lightly scuffed it with 1,000 grit and shot a 6th and final coat. In scuffing it I found that rub through is achieved VERY easily and that my 6th coat didn't cover the rub through as anticipated.
This stuff is a little rough for the NOOB with a brush, a 2 stage Paasche, but, I think that I will strip it again and try it one more time before I make my final judgement on it..I did manage to pull myself away from the X-Box for a bit yesterday and tested out a new product for a reputable model finishes company yesterday...
