One of my favorite cars is a Ford Galaxie, dang near every year until 1969. To me they just lost their luster after that. I thought it would be interesting like Mark's threads about Chargers to see all the different issues in one thread. I have many of the years they were made, but not all of them with single photos. Here are a bunch that were made, but I don't have all of the boxes so some of these come from the instructions site. ahh that "here's a sample of what you can do" box art 1959 Ford Galaxie Hardtop ( I actually don't have one yet) 1960 Ford Galaxie Starliner 1961 Ford Galaxie Starliner 1961 Ford Galaxie Hardtop 1961 Ford Galaxie Sunliner (the convertible version) 1962 Ford Galaxie Sunliner 1963 Ford Galaxie released again with same box as "Buyer's Choice" 1964 The best version of this car with working head and tail lights. Looks much nicer than the later retooled with solid chrome headlights and one piece rear assembly 1965 1966 1967 the year they screwed the pooch when destroying the '67 tool to make the '68. we won't see a '67 issued again unless they retool or make a new one. 1968 the '67 was ruined to make this year 1969 the '68 was ruined to make this year out of '67, '68 & '69, this is the only year that has still been issued because it's the remainder of those year's tools. Probably AMT's dumbest mistakes during those years was taking these kits and others to make dirt track/nascar kits out of them also. For the heck of it, my Galaxie collection which is not the same today....I have sold some of these and replaced with others...but you see I love them?

Direct hit for me! Love 'em all including the big Mercs from the same years. I have them all except for the elusive unobtainium '68 & '67.

Great thread Bob!!
As much as I love that old "Modified Stockers" series of reissues I'm like you in that I wish AMT hadn't butchered those great annual kits. At least AMT did retool two of them back to stock over the years, (the 65 GTO & the 69 Torino).
On the Galaxie kits, I've built a 60 (the "custom" purple version), a 63, (street machine build with a second one stashed away to maybe build using the custom parts in the kit), two 66's, (one as a replica of Dan Gurney's 1966 Riverside "Motor Trend 500" winner & one stock, got a third I may do as a SOHC powered Pro Street car), a stock 65, (got another 65 stashed away, not sure how it'll be built yet), & a stock 69.
My favorite Galaxie body style is the 64 though, & in addition to the Model King reissue of the Modified Stocker one I have to build, I have one of the Custom Shop curbside promo reissues I've built, & another to do a kitbash with. That one will get an opening hood, the chassis/suspension/drivetrain from a 60 Galaxie, along with it's floorpan, the SOHC heads, valve covers & FI setup from the 69 Galaxie, (with a set of short injector stacks from Detail Master, so I can use the stock hood), & the custom seats from the 90s reissue of the 57 Fairlane, along with planned scratchbuilt interior panels. That street machine project will hopefully get it's start next year!

A bit more on the 64 Galaxie kit. Looking at the photo of the 67 Galaxie box art, & the "Rebel Ford" sponsor on the car, reminded me I had this picture: This was the last reissue of the 64 Galaxie before the tooling was altered, & it could only be built as a race car. It was called the "Daytona Sportsman" in this issue, had only the racing parts in it, & IIRC had options listed on the box for NASCAR & USAC stock car versions. The reason it was called a Sportsman car by then, is it would no longer have been eligible for the NASCAR Grand National Series, (now Nascar Sprint Cup Series), & so would have been raced in the next lower division. The was the second model I built, when I was eight, (first one was a 1957 Ford, built when I was the same age), which places it as around 1969/1970. This was also the first model I ever painted, red, albeit with a brush! I thought you might like to see a picture of this version & to add the box art to the collection!!

Let's not forget this old gem. It say's Fairlane 500 on the box but this was the first year for the Galaxie. Many of these had Galaxie script on the back up light pods and Fairlane 500 trim on the trunk.

I got to thinking about the different issues of the Galaxie kits over the years, & besides what I have listed that I've built since returning to the hobby, here's a list of the Galaxies I built as a kid:
Revell's 59 Skyliner retractable from the mid 70's reissue, (& I have one of those stash away to build again, I had forgotten that one).
The "Daytona Sportsman" version of the 64 Galaxie I mentioned previously.
The original version of the "Modified Stocker" issue of the 64 Galaxie.
Somewhere between 4-6 of the 65 & 66 Galaxies in the 70's, including some kitbashing between those two kits. I really like 65 & 66 Galaxies!
Finally, one of the 70's reissues of the 69 Galaxie kit, under the "Countdown" series IIRC.
That's between 8-10 Galaxies I built in my younger days, along with the one's I've built as an adult. Sometimes when you stop to think about the old models you've built, it's amazing how many of them can add up!

Hey Bob, Thanks for sharing this, you have a nice collection of Ford Galaxie kits. I love them too. The 61 Sunliner convertible you have posted. Have you ever seen a kit in a hard top version. I never have been able to run across one. My Father had a 1:1 of that car, I have always wanted to build a scale model of it in remembrance of him. But I have not had any luck finding one yet. Thanks, Tim

I never have been able to run across one. My Father had a 1:1 of that car, I have always wanted to build a scale model of it in remembrance of him. But I have not had any luck finding one yet. Thanks, Tim Tim, yes there is a '61 Galaxie kit but it doesn't have the same roof as the Starliner apposed to the Sunliner variation. Here is what it looks like. This is the easiest one to find since it was issued as a "Buyers Choice" kit. You can see the instructions and what the box looks like here... public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/amt-7/amt-styline-61-galaxie/Now, if you are patient and willing to even buy on ebay, you can find an original with the Starliner roof also that looks like this. You can see instructions and box here to see it's an old kit and not released in many years. public.fotki.com/drasticplasticsmcc/instruction_sheetsh/instruction_sheets/amt/amt-1961-ford-starl/One thing you could do if you want the Starliner roof , is buy the latest '60 Starliner and the '61 Galaxie buyers choice kits and do a roof swap! I hope this helps!
