Hey guys, I don't know how many of you noticed that the '32 5-Window kit from AMT was re-issued by www.dirttrackracecars.com ? When I saw the box art on ebay, I thought HOLY MEARDA!! I had not realized this kit was coming back out. I remember by having a couple that it had slicks, moon discs and more because hey....it's one of them old 3 n'1 kits right! I read the description of the auction on ebay and it said "this is almost and exact replica of the old kit".....I thought "hey, I do NOT want to pass on this one" There was also something like 5,000 made? I am sorry, but this kit was a disappointment. It may have the old box art (who cares) and it may be the same tool that the old kit was from.....but it's missing MEARDA! that made this kit what it was!
To start, the box is nothing great, it's cool to see old box art but the box is not even the same size as the original (shoe box).
Next, Hey....I am glad that someone is putting effort in and bringing back memories and trying to keep the hobby afloat.....so I am grateful for that!
Where it gets under my skin is that this kit is EXACTLY like the kit I bought at Toys R' Us last year. The WHOLE kit has exactly the same parts as the last re-issue OTHER....than a couple of changes....
The issue I bought last year was this one..

That kit above came with updated instructions and decals and of course the box art was not the same. It did not come with slicks or moon discs and all the other tough to find stuff. I am happy with it though.
Now the new issue i just got has this box art..... notice , this box does not say AMT anywhere on it. it does have RC2 web link on bottom though.

Compare to the old lid...this doesn't matter much...but neat to look at.

Comparing the three kits, the biggest differences are as follows.
Obviously the original kit had ALL the parts show on box sides and instructions.
The CLASSIC issue (top) is just like the old kit other than box art, some instructions changes, decals, molded in gray and missing slicks, moon caps etc.
The DTRC issue i just got is just the same as CLASSIC series , missing all the same parts.....BUT the box art is nostalgic and the instructions are modified a little as well as it has REPLICA DECALS FROM THE ORIGINAL KIT! this is the biggest plus in my opinion!
Here are links to check out all three issues and compare.

DTRC ISSUE

pros: the DTRC kit does have neat appeal about the box and gets you excited to build that old 5window. It is molded in white and comes with reproduction original decals.
Cons: costed me nearly $33 shipped to find out it's same as CLASSIC issue. You can buy this kit much cheaper if you don't care about the box and decals.
