Yeah, I posted this same thread on TRAK. I'll probably be posting the finished model here though as it may not be TRAKable.
I've got a little more done in the last couple of weeks. I know in an earlier post I said I wasn't too happy with how my first attempt at adding the reinforcing beads to the firewall was looking, so I took them off. I still couldn't get the idea out of my mind, so I tried it again a few days ago. I used the .060 half round again, but sanded the back side of the strip to get it flat, and at the same time, to get it a bit smaller. I marked the firewall where they'd go and stuck the pieces on. After the glue set, I sanded and scraped them to reduce the height even more so they are less pronounced on the firewall. I mashed the end of a round toothpick, and put a drop of superglue on a piece of steel I keep on my bench. I touched the toothpick to the glue, then carefully touched it along the bead edges to blend the beads to the firewall to give it the look of it protruding out of the firewall instead of being attached to it.
I'll be using two lengths of .032 brass rod as radiator supports from the firewall. I removed the filler cap from the back of the radiator tank, and have the cap back on top of the grille shell. This should help to give it an earlier look.
In the second picture I threw in the front fenders, just to show them. I didn't place the rears on the model for these pictures. The front wheels are good ole AMT 40 Ford parts, and the neat little front tires are out of my tire shed. The rear wheels and tires will be the steelies and whitewalls (which I may paint flat black) from the Revell 50 Ford P/U kit. Gary
