Build thread: drasticplastics.proboards.com/thread/5734/porsche-914-gt-resin-transkitJust finished up this Historic Racing Miniatures Porsche 914-6 GT transkit. Was not without its challenges, but in the end turned out very nice. Hood panel is loose but posable, but the engine is barely visible even with the panel off. Tamiya Bright Orange with Tamiya Semi Gloss Black top and lower panels, pretty much built without modifications except that the car was lowered maybe 3" scale all around. Check it out; comments most welcome! And finally, a look at it in its new home: Thanks again for looking! jb

Came out great JB! Looks like you overcame the rear deck issue brilliantly. That decal looks real good on there. Well done.

Nicely done ! Too bad the engine isn't more visible . Looking at your build thread it's a nice model all by itself !

Thanks for the comments and thanks for looking back at the build thread. yeah the engine is pretty nice in itself, you can only see a bit of it from above but turn the car over and more of the front of it is visible from beneath.
More comments questions critiques always welcome!

Beautiful Porsche . This Conversion kit looks good . I plan a 914-4 . Two things are holding me back . The cash to buy the re-pop Revelle Kit . Good Pics of the 4 used located in the Porsche 914-4 . You do nice work to say the least . I admire your collection .. Thanx ..

Well the 914-4 normal engine was just a 1600 type 1 VW engine I believe, maybe twin solex carbs but I could be confusing that part with the Type 3s. As little as one sees of the engine, I would think a motor out of one of the Revell Bugs would work, or a much better looking base would be the Tamiya Ghia or Bug engine. Be sure to post it when you do and thanks for the comments.

The more I think about it, the more I think maybe the 914-6 had significant differences from the plain vanilla 914, including a lot of chassis mods, interior changes and of course the engine, but possibly suspension too. This may only be as I recall (versus objective reality) but I think I recall reading the 6s were pretty much built to order vs the production 4s. Best to do some research of course, you might find the subject more challenging than merely swapping the engine, as I assumed above. For one thing the 6s were obviously physically different sizewise than the 4 cylinder motors.

That turned out very nice! I can't say that this would be my favorite Porsche body style, but you did an excellent job building it! Luckily you were able to overcome all of the problems during the buildup process as this definitely looks like something to be proud of. Great job!

yes you may be right about that, but I think the differences are only in the shroud and assorted peripherals. Not positive about that and never been one to really want to find out, that engine compartment is too cramped and to difficult to get to to really care about it!
Is there a difference under the shrouding between at type 1 and type 4 engine, besides displacement? not sure but I think all the cases are essentially the same.
