I finished this one on Friday and just got around shooting some pics. This was built for Primer Community Build on TRaK Forum where the main idea was to leave either parts of the body or complete body in primer. I thought this little Fiat would be a good one for that.
So this started out as AMT Double Dragster kit and the plan was to build it with a Hemi and eight carburetors. Clutch cover was missing my kit though, so with a little cutting I replaced that missing piece with one I found in my parts box. At the same time I installed a 4 speed transmission on place. Engine is otherwise pretty much out of the box except for some of the most important details like spark plug wires, carburetor linkages, fuel lines etc. I also added shift linkages to the transmission.
Chassis is pretty much box stock as well. I just drilled holes to front axle to make it a bit lighter and swapped front wheels and tires. I added valves to the wheels and some other minor details too, but nothing special. Driveshaft was shortened from a piece that I found in my parts box.
"Interior" has a seat from AMT kit, but I stretched molded in seat belts so that they connect to a crossmember on roll cage. That crossmember was made out of sheet styrene as the kit didn't have one originally. I added a tachometer and parachute launch handle and some detailing but otherwise everything is from the kit.
As the car was built for that Primer CBP, I left the body in Maston's Red Oxide Primer and a coat of flat clear. Class markings were checked from NHRA '64 Rulebook and they were painted on with a small brush and free hand to make them look like someone put them on with shoe polish at the pits. Body has no modifications, but I cut a hole to the grille shell so that I could fit that stock grill properly on place.
This was a fun build and it turned out decent, even though there are lots of mistakes as well. Here are some pics of the finished thing:
Here it is together with a FED I built from the same Double Dragster kit a few years ago.
And here's a picture from a local Model Car Show yesterday. I was surprised to score a 2nd place in Racing category as there were some beautiful models there.
Thanks for looking, and as always, comments are welcome - Good or Bad.
