Last time I posted that orange '66 Nova Pro Street and I said I got it for free from my dad's workmate a few years ago. Well this AMT '70 Super Bee builtup was also got in the same lot (Thanks!!!). It was finished in 2011 if I remember correctly, so it's an older build and even if I could do better job today, I'm still quite happy on how it looks.
I started by unassembling the whole car and then I put most of the parts to paint stripping to get rid of that old paint. It came off quite easily and underneath the plastic was in good condition. At this point I decided that I'd like to build this as a Factory Stock car as it had been a long time since I had built one. Anyway the Body needed some minor filling on some spots as there were minor sink marks and other flaws but not much. It was painted with Maston gloss red and clear coated. It wasn't polished as I didn't know how to do it that time, so the paint job is only waxed.
Engine was rebuilt and repainted completely and I added some details there. Actually I added more details than I usually did at that time and I was really happy how the engine looked back then (Except a couple of mistakes that I never liked). Some of the details are aftermarket stuff, some are scratchbuilt. I also tried some black washing on that engine to make it look a bit used.
Interior was built pretty much from what the kit offered. After stripping the paint I decided to go with brown instead of the usual black upholstery. Seat belts are aftermarket stuff with Photo Etch locks.
Chassis was painted body color straight from the spray can (Just like the body was) and other parts are painted with Revell / Humbrol Enamels. I added some details on there, too.
Final assembly went pretty well. BMF was very tricky on the fenders, but otherwise it was fairly easy. Windshield is the original kit part, but I had to make a new rear window from sheet acetate, because it had snapped into two pieces when unassembling this car. Headlights were originally chromed, but I painted them so that they look like they have clear lenses on them.
Here is an old WIP picture of the finished interior.
