Something I picked up way back in my model RR days. I had a qt. jar that I keept lacquer thinner in for cleaning brushes. It had gotten a dirty brownish grey and I found that I could dip/brush it on stripwood without any warping. A dip and a wipe would instantly stain the wood, and it also was usable in just a few minutes. When I started back recently to build my dios, I started a new jar and added some paints to it. Use a large jar to keep it thin. A little trial and /or repeated dippings to get the degree of weathering you want. I have dipped/painted 4 X12 inch sheets of scribed stripwood siding for the walls - no warpage. For the bed of this truck, I wanted a more aged, bleached look. I made a batch that was a dirty greyish white. When I had this wood done, I just added the thinner to the other jar. Good luck.
