Man, that Sunbird kit is awesome. I'd prefer it stock, though. What scale is it? combining it with the Cavalier could be a way to get a close-to-stock Sunbird, maybe!

They say you can’t go back again. However, that’s not entirely true when it comes to modelling! There’s always a chance to take another run at a kit that you might have botched up in your younger years. For me, such a kit is, of course, a loser car! In this case, it’s the MPC 1982 Cavalier! Sure, you’re thinking that the Cavalier may not be worth re-doing, right? Well, as a car, you might not be wrong on that, but it’s a neat kit of a very important car. The Cavalier nameplate solidered on for a long time, and it’s one of those cars that literally seemed to be everywhere back in the day. Check out my take on this “New for ‘82” Chevy and tell me what you think. If it makes you remember how bad things got, then I’ve done my job! adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/cars/125-mpc-1982-cavalier/

Were there any '80 or '81 Cobras that DIDN'T have the flat black two-toning? Also, could you get the recarro seats in the Cobras in the two tones listed in the catalog, like Bittersweet and white?
I'd like to do Bittersweet with Bittersweet and White interior, but I don't have any photographic proof you could get that. Can anyone help me out?

Mustang. It’s a legendary name and a car that has had an amazingly long life. The thing is, Mustangs are so popular that it’s hard for me to find one that fits into the “loser” car mould. Sure, there are Mustang II’s, but I LIKE Mustang IIs. Besides, they’re “II”s. Thankfully, the late ‘70s and early ‘80s teamed up with MPC to satisfy my craving for Stang-based sadness. Check out my out of box review for the “Wild Breed” custom Mustang below. It’s a typical MPC, which means it has great detail and texturing as well as nice tires, but also some very tasteless custom touches! adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/out-of-box-reviews/125-mpc-wild-breed-mustang-cobra-oob/

I'm thinking I need some kid of cool artwork for under the hood, and I might see if I can make the hood open sideways!
I'm not quite sure whether to treat it like a van, or just a wildly custom vette. I guess the difference is minimal, but it's a bit different in terms of how to do the inside as well as what kind of graphics, I think.
Any ideas?

I love MPC’s kits, and I love crazy street vans. I also grew up in the days when there were Show Rods all over the place at custom car shows. I could never wrap my head around how some of the customizers came up with the stuff they did. It was wild! That’s why I was really excited when I got a chance to get my hands on MPC’s old Vette Van kit! It’s everything I remember about those old car shows! It’s a Vette, with altered headlights (Of course it is!), fin mags and best of all, it’s also a Van! The kit wasn’t cheap, but I sure as heck wasn’t going to say no to something this wild! Check out the out of box review for this hybrid from the past at the link below, and make sure you have plenty of twinkies and mountain dew on hand! adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/out-of-box-reviews/125-mpc-vette-van-oob/

Thanks for the compliments; they really mean a lot.
It takes a long time to write up an article like that, but I find once I start, I can't stop until I'm satisfied that I've covered everything. I think my articles get longer the more I do this, but I like to try and inject some historical context, humour and fact all in one package. I'm glad someone goes to the trouble of reading it all; it makes it all worthwhile.
Sometimes, I think I should just post some pictures and captions, and be done with it, but I just can't; I really feel committed to giving my models my "all", both when building and presenting! When I start to think I could shortcut it, I remember people like you who enjoy what I do, and it bolsters my resolve!
Yeah, I'm pretty fixated on stock stuff. Mostly, I think, it comes from the fact that no one seems to remember these cars, and I want to preserve them. I can't preserve the real things (time, money, room... all in short supply!), so I figure my "scale museum" will have to do. I like to customize once in a while, but given the choice, factory stock is my fetish!
Lol! I love "How's your fern?" I just hope they didn't water it; I don't think Citations were exactly rust-proof!

Well, after a lot of work and some delays, the Citation X-11 is finally done! While the Revell kit (an old Monogram) isn’t the best car kit I’ve built, it really wasn’t bad, and it’s quite accurate, other than the bloody turbocharger on the engine. I build this one in the “Light Fern Metallic” colour that I’ve never seen photo evidence of on a Citation, but that the brochure did say was a colour. You know, with the nice wheels, a suitably subdued colour scheme and the blacked out trim, I really don’t think the Citation looks bad at all. Sure, it was kinda geeky in its day, but by today’s standards, it’s pretty distinctive and does look, dare I say it, a bit mean! Check out my little green machine here, and let me know what you think! Thanks! adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/cars/revell-124-1984-chevy-citation-x-11/

Modelling oddball cars is one thing I love to do, but it’s hard to do it when it’s SO oddball that there’s not even a single picture anywhere on the net to help you! That’s the problem I have with doing my Citation X-11; I wanted to do it in a neat and obscure colour, and Light Metallic Fern is definitely that. Thankfully, someone got a picture of a Caprice in that colour, and mercifully there was even a bit of a hint of what the Light Fern interior looks like! Believe me, trying to find pics of a Light Fern Citation interior… totally impossible. Thus, this representation of the X-car’s green front office may be the only one you’ll ever see, unless you’ve been in the real thing! Does anyone actually know how close I managed to get? Check out my Citation’s interior here; I finally got some more time to work on it, and I hope it’s at least entertaining; it’s as accurate as I could make it! adamrehorn.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/%EF%BB%BF%EF%BB%BF-citation-update-3-green-from-the-inside-out/

If you're a Chevy van guy, then the Vantasy kit from a few years ago would be pefect for you; it's a Chevy, and is 1/25, I believe. It's a long-box van, too. Sadly, there's no interior, but that doesn't mean you can't scratch one! I have a few 1/20, and yeah, they're big, but this thing just looks TOO fun not to give a shot. If you see one cheap in a year or so, or at a show, try it anyways! I'm sure it will be a challenge, too, but fun all the same! I don't know of a smaller scale Econoline of this type, though. What about promos? Are there any of those? They're always a good place to start for kitting!

If it’s one kind of vehicle I really miss seeing around, it’s the old ‘70s street vans! I remember when those things with murals, and crazy interiors, were everywhere! I have a real soft spot for their creativity and outlandishness! That’s why I love to build street van kits, although I don’t have many of them. I have to say I was disappointed by the “Vantasy” kit from a while ago, since half the fun is the interior, and it doesn’t have one! Thankfully, the reissue MPC HighJacker does have one, and man, does it ever scream out its age! I managed to snag one of these recently at my LHS. There was NO WAY I was going to turn it down, and when I got it home, I was pretty excited by what I found. Check out my review of this long-lost and long overdue model. Just make sure you extinguish all smoking materials, please. Oh wait, never mind… adamrehorn.wordpress.com/model-kits/out-of-box-reviews/round-2-mpc-120-highjacker-oob/
