Couple of years ago I laboriously chopped an AMT Merc. Was a bit miffed when Revell put out a chopped version so any ham handed glue bomber could duplicate my effort. Let me say before I pee someone off, that I have seen this model built extremely well! To my chagrin, I now have one of the Revell kits and I decided that I would try to build it in a manner that no one would, at first glance, guess that it was the ubiquitous, redundant pre-chopped Revell thing. I prefer to do my own modifying, so, I rechopped the thing even more. And I reduced the windshield opening.

Here's the front end mods roughed out. I'm using the roll pan part of a 50 vert custom front clip on the rear of my Merc. This one on the front fits perfectly (after trimmimg off the front valance of the merc). It's a different color plastic than the 50 verts so I don't know where it originated.

Well here's my days work. I'm taking the crank driven blower on the Parts Pac Chevy and modifying it to set up top on the intake manifold. Got out all of the salvage yard pulleys and am trying to make a passable arrangement. Ended up using mostly pulleys left over from the R&RoM S.Co.T. blower. I used thin styrene to sheet over the finned valve covers and cobbled up some carb mounts for the top of the blower Have yet to make a bracket for an idler and alternator mount

got the blower pullys all sorted out, now looking to the chassis. Molded in battery was interferring with the alternator so i relocated it and converted it to 12 volt while I was at it. Have 1/8 " spacer blocks to lower the front end more. Cut off the rear of the frame and narrowed it.

Well, got back from lower michigan last night. Minus 13 freeking degrees !!!! Wasn't quite ready to announce where i was going with the front end of the Merc, but there was a kind similar theme on another forum, so i spilled the beans on mine. I'm depending on graphics to pull this off better. I was pleased that after saving this unknown grill piece for the last million years, I finally found a place to use it. I've forgotten where it came from, but have looked at it while scrounging around on almost every build )

that's probably the first use of a '69 Camaro grille on a Mercury, but i think it fits just fine! LOL i love the skulls for headlights, but you know you have to put some red or yellow ones down in the grille now.

Thanks, Dave. I did build a 69 Camero for my daughter several years ago. I suffer from CRS.

Progress is slo, 1:1 life keeps getting in the way. I have finished with repairs and adjustments on the chassis. Working on a minimal interior. As DD said window openings are so narrow, no sense in going crazy there. And body work experiments are in progress. Using the Revell kit's front steelies and tires even tho I dont care for the look (or the fit!).

i've never had any luck with the whitewall inserts in these kits! they seem to big to me to fit the tires right. i have had some luck with running a sanding stick around the outside of them until they fit better and then superglueing them in place. if you look at them you can see a ridge around the outside thats not on the same inserts in other kits with these same tires.
i love those traction bars! got a set like that on my Merc!
