Having built a few of these over decades, and having one on the shelf, following my Porsche build series recently. I added a scratchbuilt rollcage and alloy exhaust pipes. I've canted the kit number decals at 45 degrees on the bonnet and engine lid, just to be different. Having had problems previously with fitting the engine lid I added it before the body chassis connection. A couple of previous ones, built leaving out various chassis, axle parts due to difficult builds of this kit. And a rat rod, barn find, daily driver..

Pat that's a pretty credible job of building your latest 914, it is not an easy kit, in fact I consider it almost unbuildable into anything very kool looking without ripping out all the suspension and basically re-engineering the build to make it sit like it should and not like a 4WD off road rig, but you sure did it justice. I never realized the trunk opened like that, on the real thing you have to work on the engine through the intermediate panel between the front of the trunk lid and the interior compartment. Did you open the trunk or does it come like that? (I have to go review the kit, I think I have one somewhere here that I considered starting but then thought better of it). Did you do the engine and does the true engine cover lift up to view it?

Hi jb. Yes to everything you asked. yes the rear lid opens, the engine lid opens and yes I built the engine gearbox unit and installed it. It's the first of about six I had that worked well in the building of it! Fitting both rear lids has to be done as a rolling chassis unit before dropping the body on. With the other two here and a few more the suspension etc didn't fit so most of the underside and axles are plastic card and rod! This is the box top, all others have shown different box art.

I have a couple of those on the self that I bought for cheap. Never done anything with them. Figured I used them for parts. Now I find out they are a pig of a kit. Good to know. Well done Pat.

Cheers Dave. Only the blue one above fitted together properly as long as you remember to hang the engine cover and rear boot lid before you add the body to the chassis!
