Yes, I know this should be in the "Other" section, but I thought I would continue my handpainted flame theme here. Arlen Ness was a custom bike builder, and one of the styles he created was known as "Tail Dragger" because of the long fenders and high bars. He used to also name a lot of his builds as "Something"-Ness. This was my version of a Tail Dragger, I called "Scale-Ness" It's 1/12 scale Sorry, I didn't resize the photos. Hand painted Flames Ft fender is 5 separate pieces Back fender is 7 separate pieces, scratch built belt cover. Arlen Ness logo, Photo etched sides of air cleaner In my shop I had a poster of Arlen and some of the bikes and cars he built, I thought if I want all that, I better get to work, so as a joke I wrote "Get to work, Jim" above Arlens picture. A friend of mine saw Arlen at a show, and told him about the poster. I had spoken to Arlen on the phone a few times, and told him I had some of his parts on my real bike. So he sent me this: Thanks Jim

Beautiful! Could you show us a "how-to" on hand painting flames?
That's a neat story about your Ness photo. Get to work!

Jim, spectacular flames. I too would like a tutorial on hand painting flames. Beautiful work on the bike as well. I used to live a few miles from the Arlen Ness store. Occasionally they would have something special parked out front.

Thank you mack, I'm glad you liked it. Thanks Charley and Dave, yes I'll work up a little tutorial on how I do the flames, It'll probably be in the "how to" section. That's cool Dave that you saw some of Arlen's stuff, but then of course, California, there is cool stuff everywhere. LOL I found my old poster that I was talking about, My friend got it a little wrong, he told Arlen "get to work" when I had actually written "go to work" but close enough for me. haha Thanks Jim

Thanks Bob
That's cool your friend got one of Arlens bikes.
I am in the process of working up an article about how I paint the flames.

Thanks noelsmith
I am still working on a flame demo, every time I get another layer done, life interrupts, at least the layers are drying in between, LOL.
