Lowlight VW Karmann Ghia

Hi gang! Another VW coming together on my desk, this time a Sangyo-Gunze Karmann Ghia which will be backdated to Lowlight configuration using parts from an old promo.

The car itself will be built in a pretty modern way with 22" wheels and comfortable sports seats.

I did some work to the Promo before cutting it apart:



adding Pegasus 19" disc breaks to the modern wheels I'm using.



The front axle/suspension has been modified and lowered.

The new front was glued to the body and I also made new shocks both front and rear:

Modified the engine dummy and chassies plate to look better and accept the lowered rear suspension:

Roof glued to body and both A-pillars repaired:

I filled the recessed areas for the taillights as I have scratchbuilt new taillights which will be correct for a "lowlight" Ghia.





I also had to add some material to the front valance as it wasn't "high" enough after the modifications:

The new front valance only needed some wet-sanding before primer/paint

I added material to the flares in the "grille-openings"



Nose-job almost done:



I cut 4 small strips of half round evergreen and glued in place over the "grille-openings" :

I built the chassie in traditional early VW stance style here's the rear suspension:



Front axle, 2,5 scale inches narrowed, and suspension ready to be mounted to the chassies plate:

The ventilation slots in the package shelf are extremely visable through the window, so I opened them up:



Also tested the front seats, pirated from an old Esci set of the Renault 5 :



I grinded away the cast-in rails on the floor and then sectioned the stock seat-supports about 1,5 mm to make the front seats sit lower:
